It’s been years since I was last here. This is a great National Historic Site. The staff a very friendly. Everything is well kept. The fort and lighthouse presentations are nicely put together. The room dedicated to women in the was honest and frank. Saw the OTentiks! What a great place to stay.
Fort Rodd Hill Park and the lighthouse offered a great educational experience. It’s a unique place to learn about Canadian military history. The site was well maintained and had signage explaining what went on from the mid-1860s to the mid-1950s. I enjoyed taking in the view of the lighthouse and the water.
Lovely place to chill and spend time with family. The lighthouse is so beautiful. It is a self guided tour. You can roam around by yourself. The lighthouse is open for everyone to see. We paid 15 bucks for 2 adults and free for kids. We are not in a hurry. So, we spent half day here. We enjoyed the place very much. We are excited for summer to book a stay here. Close to Hatley Castle, too.
The men in my family are very interested in military history, so this was right up their alley. What was supposed to take an hour took 2.5 as we looked at every building, every bunker, and every artillery piece. They loved Fort Rodd Hill. It is mostly accessible, with wide paved paths for the majority of the historic site. Fisgard Lighthouse was interesting as well. Of course, the electronic game was broken. But the other exhibits work, and the signage was well written. The parking lot is treed, and generously sized. The bathrooms are flush toilets.
Fantastic place to spend the day. Scenic beach with a light house you can explorer. Lots of benches and chairs along the walk. Perfect spots for picnics. Lots of history to take in. Very well maintained facilities with garbage, washrooms, camping. Parking is excellent. Not far off the main hwy if you coming from the malahat. Fun for all ages you can explorer and go at your own pace. Be respectful of the history and sacrifices of our military personnel. Easily accessible for strollers and wheel chairs. A must see on vancouver island.
We love coming to the Fort Rodd Hill and Fisgard Loghthouse National Historic Site! It’s a great place to take out of town visitors to Victoria or just to visit as locals. There are lots of historic structures to see, some nice wooded areas and a beach you can take a path down to as well.
It's a pretty good walk through. The old Fort and batteries. Or you can just high tail it out to the light house. It was pretty windy there that day. But it was December and it waa still 8c above. Nicer than our Albertans 30 below we just had. It's a good suggestion to keep an eye on the forecast this time of year. Bring an umbrella if you can just in case. Not much help if the wind picks up tho. There is basic shelter if it get bad in the first battery area. As its a good walk back to the gate. Give your self a couple hours minimum unless you are a really good walker. The light house is close to a km from the gate. Was a very relaxing and interesting place to visit. I would have preferred to have brought a thermos of coffee for a break before heading back. But it was a good visit.
Visited Fort Rodd Hill and Fisgard Lighthouse on a Friday in October. The weather was nice and the park was not crowded, although none of the exhibition areas were open. Very nice trails and the walk to the Lighthouse was easy. Saw a navy ship comimg in when we visited.
Wonderful place - such a beautiful view!! We were not very interested in fort, but enjoyed way to the lighthouse and surroundings. Parking was almost empty on Saturday in mid-October.
A great afternoon! If you're into the details spend the $5 for the audio tour. It's an easy walk and a lot to take in. We loved the lighthouse.
