A must visit place and felt like an architectural marvel. So much of fine wood work and luxury. It will literally take you through the Craigdarroch family's life. I'm so happy that the authorities have put some restrictions and cleanliness and crowd control. The amenities and objects they used were fascinating and the Castle looked like 3 floors maximum from outside but it's 4 or more floors I believe.
This is a relatively small castle. However, I spent almost 2 hours there! The staff and volunteers are super nice and helpful! They also show that they do care about the castle! If you have any questions, ask them! They gave me a lot of information outside the brochure! The restoration work is an ongoing process, so some of the rooms are not fully restored. I guess I could come back for a second visit after a few years!
This castle was amazing! Located in a neighborhood but had lots of parking! The inside was amazing! The history preserved done excellent the staff were very helpful and knowledgeable...they are currently working on restoring the original kitchen but worth the trip...masks are mandatory...
Visited here during my trip to Victoria and it was absolutely worth it. My favorite part was the fact I was able to walk around freely without a tour. I personally am not a fan of tours with random people. There was staff however throughout the building incase you had questions and they were also super friendly and knowledgeable on the place. The place is an amazing piece architecture, with such deep history. Definitely a must visit if your looking for something to do.
The castle is a national historic site in Victoria, built as a Victorian-era mansion. You can simply come to view the outside architecture or you can take the tour inside. Definitely worth seeing if you like to see architecture that was surely ahead of it's time considering it was built in 1890!Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
What an interesting tour, very unique with a lot of history. Tour guides were full of information and delight. It's a good idea to bring good walking shoes, there are a lot of flights of stairs; and some tissue, as the upper levels had allergens in the air.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Friendly staff. They will answer questions about the castle. A castle build with some modern technology. Some rooms were converted during college use. Some were restored to original. It has flush toilets. A shaft next to kitchen to bring food up. Make sure to enjoy stain glasses. Some stairs are a bit steep when going down. Visitors center has clean bathrooms. Parking can be a bit hard.
This castle has such an overflowing walk through the history of Victoria, BC. From the history and biography of the family that once lived here to how this became a hospital. Then, becoming a place for students; just so much info to learn from. This place is a must visit. This just not educational, but also very Instagram worthy both inside and out. Speaking of ig worthy, this castle is well preserved; the woodwork here is remarkable; the stained glass and all the antique things are a symbol of how we move from generation to generation. I suggest to book ahead of time. When we were here last December 2021, we were kinda lucky to get tickets but the couple who came after us didn’t get the chance to go in because the walk-ins aren’t available anymore. The castle was quite packed that time even though it was already after 4:00 pm on a weekday while raining. You can’t miss this place, so try booking at their website in case walk-ins are full.
Wow! What a very cool place to visit! We did the self guided tour and had a blast. This is my second visit and I'd go again. Everything is malicious and they are renovations the kitchen! I can't wait to see it! Sweet gift shop, too!Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot sure
If you're visiting Victoria with your family this is a must on your stop. The history or the Castle and the Dunsmuir family is very interesting. Take your time walking through the rooms. There is some amazing artifacts here. I didn't know about the history of the hospital. It would have been interesting to work for the Victoria school board in the day. Walking those halls and stairs every day would have been amazing!!
