I am writing this review on behalf of my husband and nephew. They have been to Ross Lake Camps twice this year: in August bear hunting, and in January ice fishing. They cannot say enough good things about the camp, the owners Don and Andrea, and the overall experience. Don and Andrea know EVERYTHING about hunting and fishing, and the best guides in Maine. Very personable, experienced, knowledgeable, etc etc etc! My husband shot his first bear ever, and on his FIRST day there! The camp crew skinned it and packed the meat. (we had a neighborhood BearBQ when they came home!) Out of 22 hunters, they saw 38 bears, and shot 13. The largest weighed 375 lbs. The ice fishing, needless to say, was fantastic! They caught 86 fish over a 4 day period! Yup, you read it right, 86 fish!! 53 Togue largest of which was 32" 10lbs (lake trout), 6 Brookies, 25 White Fish (including 2 that were 17"), 1 Chub, and 1 Cusk. Oh, and as an added bonus, nephew Paul shot the red fox that had been terrorizing Don and Andrea's dogs!! Needless to say, Ross Lake Camps is highly recommended to anyone that loves to hunt and fish.

Definitely the best way to stay in the North Maine Woods. Great fishing, hunting, or just vacationing. Staff, owners, and cabins are great.

I just returned home from the hunt of a lifetime at Ross Lake Camps. The people and accommodations are great!!! The weather was less than ideal for hunting but the whole Ross Lake crew put in 110% to get us on the bears. After big rain storms and high winds we went 6 for 8 out of our hunting party and there is no doubt in my mind that we would have went 8 for 8 given a little better weather. That is hunting tho and since they can't control the weather they did the best anyone could ask for. The passion that these people have for hunting black bears is apparent and I can't wait to go back!!!
