I came to Vancouver for two days. N had a wonderful feast at Rodney on the first night (had chowder, mussels and oysters). Everything was good so I decided to go back again for a lobster and mussels.
Unlike the first time, the service was quite bad on my second visit. The portion of my mussels was much smaller from the afternoon (low tide) menu.. We were not told about the difference. The mussels were not debearded properly and there was sand in many shells. Is this also a difference between the afternoon and the night menu?
I ordered the lobster but to my disappointment, the meat stuck to the shell n was not bouncy. It was surprising to me because they have a tank n there were live lobsters in it... The one I got was probably on the brink of dying because it did not taste and feel fresh. So.. unless this is the best Vancouver has to offer, I'll recommend going to the fish market or supermarket to get fresher seafood to cook it yourself. :)

Great oyster bar. There are 6 , or more sauces I can choose, it was fun. The bread was delicious. We got IPA and pale ale, and some cacktail. Always our server come around as we need. We like to try some kind of oysters, all we had were great. Thanks for the recommendation.

Rodneys is an excellent place to have some appetizers and drinks with a couple friends. Expect high volumes and a fun atmosphere. The servers are all lively and humorous. The bar is probably the best spot to sit for the full-experience. An obvious must-order are the oysters. They come with a large variety of sauces (hot sauces mild to very hot, a vodka tasting sauce, horseradish, etc). Our server suggested taking an oyster and loading it with lots of sauce and then trading (kinda gross now that I think about it, but it was really fun!)

My friend and I ordered a Nee England style chowder and poutine with lobster tails.
The woman right in front of the front door asked us to get out within 1.5 hours right after we sat down, but hopely there were any other reasons.
However, the guy who served was so nice!!
He made a chowder right after I ordered, and it was so much delicious!
