I used to love Rivermark, but after my last few interactions I am looking to move to a different institution. Customer service representatives in years past have been very kind, and helpful whenever needed. In the the last few years the service has taken a nose dive. After having my wallet stolen, they cancelled my cards, without issuing new ones immediately. Leaving me for several days with no way to make purchases of any kind, (can't take out cash without a card!) or pay bills, etc. most recently a customer service representative I spoke with, was not only not helpful, but rude, and did not listen to my problem, request, or even answer simple yes or no questions. There are too many better options in Portland, go somewhere that cares about their customers.

Their posted hours here are incorrect and caused me to drive over there when they were closed. The useless "speak to a teller" outside ATM screen is available until 8pm. The lobby, which is where I needed to be to get quarters, closes at 5pm on weekdays. The bank itself is fine, good to average, though I did deal with a lack of communication on the loan department and was forced to get a loan elsewhere.

I've been with them since they were Safeway Credit Union and I love them I've never had to pay for any banking ever I'm in and out quick and the tellers are always very helpful even if I do the kiosk one outside very very helpful they were able to set up my son's checking account from the kiosk outside cuz we there too late to do it inside which was great I can't think of any bank that would do that.

The culmination of my experience of general disrespect at Rivermark is how they treated us when my partner and I went to ask for our first home loan. First, they promised they would get back to us by Monday via phone when I went in Friday. 3:30 Monday evening rolls around so I head down there. The teller says the loan people have been sick. Of course, as I am standing there at the teller, the loan officer calls me. She is standing right there in the same building as me, feet away, and instead she calls me. So then I walk out and get on the bus, check my phone and see a missed call. I call back and the person answers "hello," leaving me confused, and when I inquire, the person seems very affronted that they cannot hear me very well. Clearly there is no sorting out whether I should turn back and catch her so I say I'll call back. "This is Molly," she interrupts, "I can't hear you," which are both irrational in this situation. Her name is irrelevant, especially when she is so unprofessional as to not answer the phone by saying she is with Rivermark. I get home and prepare myself. Despite all attempts, the conversation I have with her is extremely combative. She doesn't just want to deny us the loan, but she also wants to inquire about our plans, not listen, and pretend I've never heard of property tax and mortgage insurance. I've regularly had $25,000+ in income from scholarships for the past four years, I have regular support from family and will be getting a research assistantship (RA) any day now. My partner has been laid off due to injury for 6 months but otherwise has an impeccable work record. His roommate is vacating with no notice, and although we wanted to apply in a few months when our lack of employment wouldn't be an issue, the bank still treats us as if we are stupid. Yes, we know the situation isn't ideal. We are asking for help so my partner won't be homeless. Instead, she tries to tell me that my RA will not count... clearly she has no idea what an RA is, thinking it's a scholarship. But does she bother to ask, because integrity is important to Rivermark and they don't want to give bad information? Absolutely not. Instead she is extremely combative and tells me that my paid work for which I will get a W2 is somehow not going to count as income. She further tells me that if I lose my scholarships, I will owe money, which is only true if you become completely delinquent and don't show up to class. It's clear what she thinks of us. When we spoke with the realtor's broker, we found out there are many things I asked about that the Rivermark loan officer plainly lied about. I asked if there was any way we could handle our incoming money differently to get it to count as income, and she said no. This is false. It turns out that by setting up annual automated payouts, the money from our family can count. Furthermore, letters of explanation can be issued. Beyond that, we qualify for USDA grants that could cover the entire mortgage. Molly didn't even say one thing about the idea to rent out half a duplex-- income. Did Rivermark tell us about any of this? Nope. Why? Because they aren't actually interested in helping out the average person, even if you tell them that without their help someone will become homeless due simply to an injury. In nearly every interaction I have had with them they have been disrespectful of my time, my money, and my lifestyle. It was clear they would not go to bat for us with the home loan because we are somewhat nontraditional. This is a kind of conservatism that belongs in the 1920s, not in 2018. It is absurd to a kafkaesque level that Molly at Rivermark seemed so sure we would be unable to pay a $545 monthly mortgage plus bills, even though combined my partner and I exceed $60,000 a year in income-- just income they find too nontraditional. I made an entire Excel spreadsheet calculating all of these costs, even down to financing a dishwasher. Even if the interest is slightly higher, I would rather go elsewhere and be treated with respect and be able to retain my dignity.
