My wife and I wandered into this little place without much of a clue - and we were wonderfully surprised. The owner and staff were friendly, courteous, and professional. The atmosphere is carefully crafted for low-key comfort and there was live music that complimented the surroundings. The food was fantastic. Simple, yet expertly made, with fresh ingredients that each added a delicate note to the meal. Dessert was fabulous, too. We felt refreshed and relaxed when we left. Highly recommended.
Four of us visited here for the first time on Saturday evening. We were very impressed. The food was outstanding. The service was excellent and the owner and staff went out of their way to make our night enjoyable. Portions are reasonably sized and the quality of the ingredients in the meals were above average. The owner was very gracious and showed he definitely appreciated our business. He went out of his way for us multiple times and even gave us a small surprise at the end of the evening. In all an excellent restaurant for traditional Italian food that does not break the bank.
Absolutely amazing, and authentic Italian chef and owner! Everything we had was delicious, including the grilled calamari, Mushroom risotto, penne Alla vodka, tagliatelle Alla Bolognese, and the steak specials along with chocolate pate. Of course I didn't get photos of everything, but you'll get the drift. The live musician catered to our requests and interacted with the crowd all night. His goal was to teach us Italian tonight. So far, in our 3 days at the wharf this is hands down the best service and food! Vegetarian options: Linguine primavera, bruschetta, insalata mista
Wonderous little Italian spot with an authentic old world feel. The food was absolutely delicious. I live in Toronto and travel alot, across North American, and in my opinion the Six has some of the best Italian spots. This place rivals them. Great menu and excellent food preparation and creation. The flavours are superb. The staff are beyond excellent. Love this place.
I'm going to be a little critical as this is a new restaurant and I want to provide constructive feedback so that I can see this place succeed. First off, I've been to Italy more than once and spent quite a bit of time there. Most of it was spent enjoying the cuisine. So I can confidently say I know authentic Italian. I was excited when I stumbled on Ragazzi and decided to check it out this evening. We were greeted with a warm welcome and the place had a nice layout and goo ambience. All of the staff were friendly and great. We started our meal with cocktails which I forgot to photograph but the drinks were good and reasonably priced at $12. As for starters, we began with the focaccia which was served with a chili oil. It was absolutely delicious but the only thing I would like to see is the option for the classic olive oil and balsamic mix for the bread as well. Then came the mussels... This is where things went a bit off for us. When the served dropped the mussels off and lifted the lid, the smell was rather unpleasant. It wasn't the smell of the actual mussels or a seafood smell at all. Our best guess was the white wine sauce they were in. It just wasn't nice and it was strong and kind of ruined the mussels for us, unfortunately. Next up was a Caesar salad. Hard to go wrong with a Caesar salad. It was very tasty but the serving size was a bit smaller than anticipated. For $10 I feel like the serving size could be improved. For mains, I had the lobster tagliatelle and my partner had the carbonara she added scallops and was happy she did. The mains we're good, don't get me wrong. But again, I'm trying to provide constructive feedback. The lobster in my pasta seemed minced which wasn't what I anticipated. Typically with a lobster pasta there is chunks or larger pieces that help you visualize that you're actually eating lobster. I'm not sure he minced lobster is the way to go but it was still good. As for her carbonara, it was wet. I've had authentic Italian carbonara several times and it is not supposed to be wet. It should be thick and a more on the dry side. I've even make it at home and it turns out this way, as intended. Basically her feedback was that if she didn't have the scallops, she would have been disappointed. For dessert, it was a cherry cheesecake. While on the small side, it was very rich and delicious. All in all, we were happy to check this place out and we still enjoyed our meal and our experience but there is certainly things that can be improved upon.
Outstanding! A very welcome addition to the neighborhood. Leo the owner was extremely warm, enthusiastic and friendly. The food was absolutely fantastic, from top to bottom we were extremely impressed. We started with the Focaccia which blew us away, after that we enjoyed the salad feature, and the Cesar Salad. Both of which were great. For our mains we had the Penne Alla Vodka, and the Tagliatelle Alla Bolognese, both of which were great, the Vodka Penne being the best of the two. For dessert we had Chocolate Pate, and the Semifreddo. They definitely have a few things to iron out, but that comes with any new restaurant. There seemed to be a few misunderstandings with dessert, but nothing serious. Leo took a very hands on approach to running the restaurant. The only think I think they could work on is making the interior a bit cozier. Regardless, an amazing authentic Italian meal which both me and my partner who is Italian enjoyed very much! Can't wait to see what Leo does with the place!
This is a top notch restaurant! What an amazing Gem in downtown Halifax!!!!! Everything I tried was absolutely delicious ! Lobster Tagliatelle was cooked and seasoned perfectly! Fresh oysters and their in house Chili hot olive oil with foccatcia focaccia bread sticks are an absolute must. Add them with anything here and you won't be disappointed! Staff is friendly and attentive. The owner Leonardo has outdid himself with the ambiance of this place.
I would rate this place 4.75 given that I rarely rate anywhere 5 stars. Since there isn’t an option for lower than 5 and higher than 4, i went with the 5. Giving a 4 to this place would be unjust. For starters, we had the arancini. And so far, these have been the best arancini I have had in my life. The best part of it was the tomato sauce. It had a great balance between the acidity of the tomatoes and bitterness of the garlic in one mouthful. It’s all about ingredients you use in the meal, and you can tell these were good ingredients. I was almost going to ask the restaurant for their pamodoro sauce recipe! We then had mushroom ravioli and lobster tagliatelle for main course. Again, the sauces were the highlight. Special mention to every single ingredient on both plates that were cooked to perfection. No complaints at all on the mushroom ravioli. However, i will say the lobster in the tagliatelle felt very flaky and thready halfway through the meal. Which is because of two things, that’s how lobster turns out when the meat is minced/shredded. But also because the meal might have a bit too much lobster. Some may think it’s a good thing. But for me it was just a touch too much. The homemade focaccia and breadsticks were excellent. The focaccia was thick enough to soak up the remaining sauces, yet still crunchy. The breadsticks had a nice “click” to them when broken or bitten into - very fresh also! On top of all of that, the owner Leonardo brought us some Limoncello. My goodness, it must have been one of the best I ever tasted maybe because it was strong?. But also, it was prepared the right way. They brought the frozen bottle out straight from the freezer and poured it for us. The service was great. Especially the hospitality we received from Leonardo. He explained how he had just opened the restaurant and that his Neapolitan cousin was the chef. Suggestions I would make is to have the non-Italian waiters develop a better understanding of the dishes and restaurant, so that if one did not come across Leonardo, one could still get the explanation of the story of the restaurant, or suggestions on dishes/drinks. Also, please include alternate dishes in the special nights. For example, I do not eat pork, but I would love to pay and come to their special menu nights. I know it would be fun with Leonardo there! Otherwise, I will definitely be coming back. As an immigrant, I always had a favourite Italian restaurant back home. I can see this one easily becoming my favourite here in Halifax. Chapeau!
I had the Tagliatelle all Bolognese and my friends had the Nonna's Lasagna and Ragazzi Burger. The Tagliatelle all Bolognese tasted amazing. The small portion size left me starving at the 18$ price point overpriced. I felt we should have had half a portion more than what was shown and or a garlic baguette to at least make this dish seem complete. My other friends who had the pasta dishes all said the same thing in comparison to the folks who ordered the sandwiches. The service was just ok. We were greeted kindly but left alone for the remainder with empty cups of water. The waitress selectively chose who got cheese for the pasta despite having the same dish and didn’t make the rounds to me. Going to have to try that burger though it looked devine
Randomly stumbled in on a live music night. Great energy, friendly staff. Leo is a sweetheart. The food is delicious and was well taken care of. Can’t wait to come back!
