Quick Cobbler

About

The Quick Cobbler Ltd. has been a fixture in Vancouver since 1984. After being located on Denman Street for almost 20 years, we moved in February 2006 to a much larger space on West 2nd Avenue.

Story

We keep busy doing repairs for local Vancouver customers and also do a lot of Mail Order Shoe Repairs with customers from New Brunswick to Alaska to Hollywood. Quick Cobbler is an authorized repair centre for many leading manufacturers of sport, dress, professional and casual footwear. The Quick Cobbler team is also on-call to the television and movie industry for repairs and some really interesting footwear modifications. Our leader, Ronald Nijdam is a third-generation Dutch cobbler, having learned his craft from his father who learned it from his father.

We really put ourselves in your shoes. You'll see.

Old-school quality craftsmanship! I'm happy I took my boots here for a sole replacement. They did a fantastic job of seamlessly stitching the new Vibram sole onto them. The boots are now as good as new. Thanks!
Patrick did an amazing job on a complete, zero drop re-sole of my Blundstones with Vibram Kletter soles. He and his team were friendly, professional, and communicative throughout the process. I couldn't be happier with their expert service, or recommend The Quick Cobbler more highly.
Very helpful staff. As soon as you enter the shop the intoxicating smell of leather hits you. Beautiful shop! Water was seeping into my shoes so I went to them. They were very straightforward and told me what I needed to do to fix it.
I really liked the service here, I got advice from a few of the workers about some options for some upgrades to a pair of boots. It was initially a bit problematic but after discussion, I was comfortable with the solution. Great advice and there was no pressure either way, they informed and educated me so I could make a decision. There is an expected 5 to 6 week timeline for services, as they are great craftsman, so plan for such a timeline and you will be good.
No need to replace your favorite shoes when they can fix them and extend their lives! These old Birkenstocks that were going to be replaced are now better than brand new ones. Why? Because they put a Vibram sole on them so they are way less slippery. They also rebuilt my favorite Scarpa Hiking boots! A discontinued model so I am so happy to give them a massive life extension!
The Quick Cobbler did a great job of resoling my birkenstocks. It took a long time to get them done, but it was worth the wait. There was a slight mix up with picking up my birkenstocks, but they quickly resolved the issue in a very professional manner. I was impressed with their customer service as well as their excellent work. I would highly recommend them and I'd go back for sure.
Thanks so much for your prompt service on my warranty HAIX climbing boot repair! You guys are marvellous! I received them back within a couple days of your phone call letting me know they were finished.
I am extremely disappointed with the Quick Cobbler and recommend you take your beloved shoes elsewhere. I went by with a pair of leather boots, in a poor state, and asked if they would be able to help clean them up there were nicks, a couple of the grommets were loose, overall old leather boots wear and tear. The man at the counter said yes of course they can buff the nicks, fix the grommets, and overall help give my boots more life. So I trusted him - third generation business, I was inspired. When I went back for the boots they looked terrible. They are now three different colours all different from the original colour, the loose grommets were pulled out but not replaced nor fixed, just tied into the ends of my shoelaces. Overall the boots like terrible and I feel really disappointed. When I shared this with the staff at the counter she essentially said 'sorry too bad'. If you love your leather boots, keep them away from the Quick Cobbler.
Ill start off by saying I did not actually receive any services from QC, so cannot attest to their quality. I'm leaving my review mostly for the gentleman that was on counter the day I brought my boots in for repair. I had a pair of leather hiking boots that had torn heel liners. After reaching out to a few local cobblers, I settled on QC due to their location to me, although their initial quote was higher than the other two shops by $30-$40. After forwarding pictures of the damage, Patrick emailed me back and quoted me $60-70 odd it wasn't a fixed number like the other quotes I received Anyways, I decided to bring them in. As I enter, I explain to the gentleman my issue with the boots, and inform him the Patrick quoted price. He then wants to charge me 75+ tax! as he claimed all hiking boot heel repairs are $75 plus tax. I had to go back and forth with him, finally showing the email, for him to honour the quoted price, which he still charged me the higher end of the quote, $70+tax. He then asks me if I want them to apply Mink Oil to my boots! this is what threw up some red flags for me. Every 'good' hiking boot manufacturer, Scarpa, Zamberlan, Lowa, Meindl.. etc Has clear Warnings NOT to apply ANY type of oil to these boots, as it over softens the leather and can result in lackluster support overtime. I left feeling as if he did not have any knowledge regarding hiking boots, this prompted me to contact Scarpa directly and explain the situation. In short, Scarpa decided to replace my boots with a new pair, which saved me both 2 months of time which is QC's current lead time and $75 which would have been wasted at QC. He also quoted me $200+tax to resole the same pair of boots, which is over $50 MORE than comparable Vancouver cobblers quotes, and really not in the ballpark of what's cost effective. I Can purchase a brand new pair for around $300, so it does not make much sense to have such a high resole cost, I will continue to toss my boots in favor of purchasing a fresh pair.
They are slow, expensive and frustrating to deal with. I dropped off a pair of boots to fix on Nov 8th. It cost $84 to have them fixed- which seems a bit expensive, considering I just needed something glued. Pick up day Dec 20th - almost 6 weeks later. I showed up Dec 19. Nope. Not ready. Come back on the 20th. I come back Dec 22 and I show up at 9:45. They advertise that they are open 8am-5pm. Nope. Closed. Holiday hrs are from 10am! I see someone inside and wave at them. They just shake their head and walk away. I’m left waiting in the cold. Frustrating experience overall.
