Couldn't find place that had fish and chips Sunday so we tried this place.  Never been.  2 generous pieces.  Clearly hand battered since they didn't look anything the same.  Fries were fresh and nicely salted. Even got to switch to sweet potato fries.  Homemade coleslaw and tartar. So was a nice surprise there was somewhere open than had really good fish and chips.  It's located right in the middle of town so you can't miss it.  Nice patio although the view was Tim Horton's.   We will remember this as our go to next time we drive up for the day. Place was a bit busy for us but worth it.
Summer in a small town can be boring. We rented in Port Elgin this year. The old hotel on the corner by the Tim Horton's had this old school marquee on the side. Was strange to see one. Some band playing Friday Night turns out they were called The Greg Richie Band . Dropped in around 10 because there was some outdoor thing going on as well. Wow the place was packed. And the music was fantastic. Had to come back next day to get pick of retro curtains and sign. Felt like we were back in the 70's. Great atmosphere, everyone having a good time, nice and chill. Can't believe there still live music in such a small town. But from the looks of it, everyone know where to go and it's here.
I was waiting for my hotel room so I walked down the road for a quick drink. Stopped at 3 places. When I sat at this one I couldn't believe the selection. Usually it's a couple bottles of whatever. This joint had 4 types of Mezcal alone. Crazy. Not sure who buys that stuff up here but was nice to see. I counted 10 scotches, 4 bourbons and about 6 rums. Seems like simple thing but knowing there's a decent selection makes all the difference to me. They clearly care about their rep and customers offering so much choice. If things work out I'm moving here so I know where my local is going to be.
Last time I had schnitzel was in Collingwood.  It was pretty good.  Saw it as a sandwich here.  I usually only have wings when I stop in on my route.  Was crunchy and nicely cooked on the inside. Lots of mushrooms and fried onions with mustard was the topping.  No choice but that.  But I'm glad because it was very good.  Never saw schnitzel on a sandwich but now I want to have it all the time.  Bartender was very polite.  She told me this is only on menu some days.  If they change my route I will have to make an excuse to come back because this sandwich was amazing.
We were driving up Highway 21 on our way to Tobermory and stopped in for quick dinner.  Place was busy and the servers were moving as fast as they could.  Nice old building.  Ribeye w this sort of cream sauce that had brandy and blue cheese.  Went really well with the tender steak.  Took a bit but was very much worth it and clearly food was cooked to order and carefully.  Great Lake Brewing or Brewery? tall boys were  an amazing bargain.  Server made sure to let us know of delay.  Will definitely come back  when we are in the area again.
