To introduce myself I am Beverley Walkey or “Bev” as I am usually known by. I began my service as a Funeral Director through an unlikely suggestion from my late husband and partner, Paul. I began as a Funeral Director’s Assistant working at the Hogel’s Funeral Home in Toronto in 2008. Through assisting and serving the families there I began to hear “the call to serve”, to help those in need.
My new found career choice lead me to attending Humber College’s Funeral Services Education Program from which I graduated on the Dean’s Honor Role. In 2010, after completing the British Columbia Funeral Service requirements I earned my BC Funeral Director’s License.
It was June 21, 2014 that truly cemented my desire to provide for those requiring our services in a way unique to only those in Funeral Service, by looking after the arrangements and preparation of my husband and life mate, Paul. It was during this time that I realized more than ever the importance of personalization, viewing and the caring of a loved one on an intimate level. It was this experience that re-enforced that everyone should be given all the options available and served at the highest of levels. Because of this, the view of our family serving your family became a tired expression, rather our family “caring” for your family is now my focus and what I now strive to provide.
It was in early 2010 Paul and I began to explore the possibilities for establishing ourselves as owner/operators of an establishment in the funeral profession. Looking towards Qualicum Beach we realized that there was no funeral home in the community and the chance to own an establishment in a smaller community, that is near the water and to care for people on a personal level was too much to pass up. It was August 1st of 2010 that a new chapter in Funeral Service began for the Walkeys when we opened our doors to care for our neighbors and friends.
I am involved in a number of community activities including: Church Council at Qualicum Baptist Church, member of Qualicum Sunrise Rotary, Chamber of Commerce, Eastern Star, and all important strolls along the QB boardwalk and lazing at the Beach Hut on balmy summer evening with my friends.
