We offer martial arts classes for adults and for kids in a myriad of styles. Classes are available six days per week. We also have a full fitness center.

Story

Plus One Defense Systems provides students with a systematic approach to martial arts training, in an atmosphere that is ethical and well-rounded. We are unique and different from any school in the West Hartford Connecticut area, and our facility is top-notch. (Check-out the virtual tour on our website.)
Located at 9 Tolles Street in West Hartford, CT, our martial arts school has a staff of diversified instructors and we offer instruction in Kung-Fu, Karate, Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ), Aikido, Jujutsu, Freestyle Kickboxing, Judo, Boxing, Mixed Martial Arts/MMA, Capoeira, Kali/Silat, Kettlebell Training, and soft style arts… all under one roof!
We are open six days throughout the week. Our facility has two floors which includes: several thousand square feet of mats, an MMA cage, a boxing ring, a full fitness center (with cardio equipment, machines, & free weights), showers, a full complement of training equipment, a wi-fi lounge, and 17 staff members. We are arguably the most fully functional martial arts academy in the state of Connecticut, and we are ready to help you reach your training goals in a variety of styles!

Our mission at Plus One Defense Systems is to provide the highest quality of martial arts instruction available, with the greatest diversity of styles available, in a personal fashion that caters to the individual needs of our students.

We desire to make a positive impact on our local and global community, to be an extension of the family for which our students look to for mental, physical, and spiritual growth, and to be a “home away from home” for those who train with us.

What a wonderful place to train! Darin and the rest of the Plus One team are so encouraging and inviting, you really feel like a part of a big martial arts family. I haven't always been consistently able to train but they have always worked with me so I can continue my training. 

In addition to the welcoming environment, the facility is top notch and well maintained/cleaned. Once, you throw in many options for classes/times, it is clear that you are dealing with a great organization that really strives to help people become healthier in all the ways.

Excellent facilities and phenomenal instructors coupled with a friendly environment. 

I love the free to use fitness center. Why pay for a gym membership when you can take excellent classes taught by experts AND have a place to lift?

This place is run by a very open minded individual and I now see that after speaking to the owner and witnessing him extend his help to a concern I had with billing. This place takes pride in their craft and if you’re into martial arts your at the right spot.

Coming from someone who has been practicing martial arts for 8 years, this school is second to none. I’ve been a student at Plus One for over  6 years now. I still to this day regret not signing up sooner. Since becoming a member of the Plus One family I’ve had nothing but amazing experiences and opportunities. It’s become my second home.
 
If you’re interested in training come check this place out. Plus One offers a variety of authentic martial arts styles to choose from. I believe the number is  9 and that doesn’t include the new Christian Yoga class that was recently added. Even if you’re not sure on what style you’d like to try, do not hesitate to come in and talk to some of the instructors . They can answer any questions you may have about the various arts and if you’d like, set up an intro class just for you. With all the styles that are offered I’m sure you’ll be able to find an art that fits you. Not many academies can say that.
 
Plus One is great because it offers everybody the opportunity to learn self defense in a clean, safe, and authentic environment. Whether you’re a beginner, a competitor, or a seasoned martial artist.  See you on the mats!

I love this place! The owner is awesone and so welcoming. This is my son's second time enrolling and it felt great that they remembered him from a few years prior. Plus One is very professional and their new location is great! I would recommend this place to anyone! They also have amenities like showers, a fitness room, I believe they also have yoga. Check it out for yourself.  You won't be sorry.
