A young blonde girl cashed me out and she wasn’t rude or anything or nice but her attitude I could tell was a bit on the lower side. I politely asked if she could read me the prices again for each item she scanned to make sure they were the right price I saw, and she goes “They’re literally on the tags”. A bit rude of her to say that. And then didn’t even offer me a bag at the end of the checkout and I had to ask for one. She didn’t even bag it either or help me bag my clothes, she just left me and went to go talk to the other cashier behind the counter. Quite sassy and rude.
I took my daughter to spend some of her well earned babysitting money. Not one of the 3 associates working said one word to us during our visit, except when my daughter went to pay. One of the associates behind the counter interrupted her own phone conversation to ask my daughter if she was wearing one of the bracelets they had on display by the cash desk. My daughter, confused, said no, and showed the associate her wrists. She then went back to her phone conversation. Is it standard to ask all customers that try a bracelet on if they’re about to walk out with one? Training in proper customer service is definitely needed. We will no longer be shopping or selling at this location.
I do not recommend shopping here. The employee that was working tonight did not greet or even speak to me upon arrival, when I asked a question regarding items clearly displayed on a clearance rack she scoffed and stated “the clearance sale is over! Those signs just haven’t been taken down” and then proceeded to roll her eyes at me. I kindly asked for a fitting room a few moments later and she walked me over and pointed to an open door and said nothing at all before walking away, seemingly annoyed with my presence. I did not end up purchasing anything as her energy and lack of professionalism deterred me and made me feel extremely uncomfortable. The idea of this business is great but picking friendly, energetic employees would greatly aid in experience and the success of a purchase follow through. I will not be returning to this location again.
Well.. The staff is 99% teenagers, and very rude. Often when selling clothing here they ask for a phone number to call when they're done sorting- I've sat around waiting for a call or while in store and they simply don't say a darn thing.. I've had them offer me 3$ for a New With Tags Lululemon top from the current season. At that rate I'm better off to take advantage of lulu's customer credit program. They're never friendly, and typically don't bother to even greet customers.
Platos Closet Cambridge has a more limited style and clothing selection than other locations I've experienced. I've gone handfuls of time over the past few years but it's more of a selection of fast-fasion casual, and specifically younger looks. I would like to see more variety on their racks.
Rude owners Was not contacted to notify clothing sorting had been completed. Went back the next day to find out status of the item I dropped off. I brought in neatly folded clothes but received bins back with clothes just thrown in a mess.
For a consignment shop prices are decent and they carry higher end name brands. It’s clean and well organized but the 2 starts are solely on the staff. I’ve been here a couple times now and quite frankly the girls that work here are not welcoming or helpful and definitely not into sales. Every time I come here they are behind front counter not on the floor. Don’t get me wrong I don’t want someone following me around but it’d be nice to offer a hand with sizes, styles, brands or even tell u if something looks good or not. Sorry girls but be thankful I’m no mystery shopper cause you’d fail.
I honestly never give reviews, but the experience I had at this store was absolutely awful. I moved to Cambridge this year, and I have been to many Plato closets before Oakville, Burlington, Hamilton to buy and sell clothes and have never experienced what I did today. I spent several hours today going through my BRAND name items, folding them neatly and placing them in bags. I made this process as easy as possible for your staff to go through. I had items such as Ted Baker, Aritzia, Dynamite, Brandy Melville, Boathouse, RW&CO, ZARA, Suzy Shier, Costa Blanca, GUESS. Given I knew how Plato’s closet purchases items that are new, or next to new, all of my items were carefully picked. 50 percent of them having brand new tags on them never worn and the other 50 percent were in immaculate condition. No scuffs, marks, wear or tear, nothing. I wouldn’t waste my time bringing items like that. I arrived to pick up my items and the cashier said they only picked 13 items out of three large bags. For these 13 items she offered me 67$. I looked through the items they “chose” and two dresses alone were brand new tagged 55$ each from Dynamite. Brand new shorts from Dynamite that were 39.99$. The other 10 items were all brand name too, some brand new and tagged as well. They didn’t even have a receipt for me to show me what each item was being offered. When questioned on the pricing the employee said that they offer 50-75% of the retail tag. I said that the two dresses alone are 110 dollars brand new not including tax. For that she didn’t have an answer. She said that it wasn’t her that looked through my clothes & the individual who did had left already. Prior to coming I told them to make sure that the Ted Baker item, if they were not going to take it, ensure it was safe due to the pricing of my item. My clothes were a disaster upon return, thousands of dollars in clothes and they were tossed around like trash. Then treated like trash. For 13 brand name items most brand new with tags they offered me 5$ each is what it worked out to be. I have truly never felt so disrespected by this place. There wasn’t even a clear reason as to why none of my other clothes were not bought. When all of them fit your standards. If I had taken to ANY other Platos that I have been too, they would’ve been bought without an issue. After finally finding my Ted Baker item since everything was unfolded and everywhere, I asked the cashier for my money back. The 67 dollars does not come close to what I should’ve received for those “13 items”. The girl who I was dealing with at this point is evidently stressed with being 1/2 employees there at this point & is clearly overworked. It seems like they are trying to cut corners everywhere here. This place is a joke and is going to go down hill fast. Had I had simply read the reviews before coming here I would’ve never of even came. Next time I’ll be sure to read reviews and be sure to go to the other Platos Closets that have their staff trained well, and are clearly better managed. What a waste of my day.
I am generally very reluctant to give bad reviews to local businesses, but my experience in the store memorably bad. The store itself was cute and very well laid out but the customer service was terrible. I came in with a stroller and was the only customer for most of the time. The two girls did not once greet or make eye contact with me or my toddler, even though she repeatedly tried to smile and chatter to them. I felt like an inconvenience when I asked to use the change rooms and they did not help open the door for the stroller. When I was ready to check out, I waited for several minutes while a girl was in full sight of the counter. I tried to give her the benefit of the doubt until she clearly pulled her phone out and walked into a back room. I had to look for the other girl for help checking out, and again she was quite rude and did not make eye contact once. It was a shame, because the store itself is really cute but the service was poor enough to prevent me from wanting to come back again.
Plato's Closet Cambridge was such a great place to work in. I had nothing but positive experience working here as a part-time for the last 3 months. All my co-workers were very friendly and accommodating. The work culture here was very positive and supportive. All the staff was eager to help each other with any questions or concerns during their shift. The owner, Dave, was very considerate and mindful and I made some really good friends with the other staff here. Overall, my work experience at Plato's Closet Cambridge was very lovely. I definitely would consider of working here again when the opportunity arises :
