Pizzeria Uno
"In Chicago, eating pizza is a dining experience, not just a snack. But it wasn't always that way. Ike Sewell changed things back in 1943 when he created Deep Dish Pizza. Some folks call it Chicago Deep Dish Pizza. Ike figured that if you combined some of Italy's old, authentic recipes with impressive quantities of the finest meats, spices, vegetables and cheeses, pizza would become a hearty meal. So he opened Pizzeria Uno as a fine restaurant specializing in his new Chicago Deep Dish Pizza, and it wasn't long before the restaurant had more customers than it could handle. Because Uno didn't have enough room to expand, Ike did another wonderful thing. He opened another Chicago Pizzeria and called it Pizzeria Due."

I mean, this place is historical, so what can go wrong right? You get the true deep dish experience. They have pizza in many sizes, we only ordered the individual ones, it's cute and tiny but three of them were more than enough for 5 people. With the crust and the cheese I feel like it's very much like quiche! Good experience even for someone who doesn't like pizza like me.
This is the original home of deep dish pizza and an absolute must eat. This is by far Chicago's best deep dish pizza I have had and I've tried all the othersno need to name them. Plus, the wings are really really good too! Dining area is small and fills up quick, but we'll worth the wait. If in downtown Chicago, make sure to eat here; can't say that enough. I'll be back for sure next time I'm in Chicago.
I came to Chicago open minded and wanting to try their famous deep dish pizza. I first tried Giordano's stuffed pizza. I was in for a surprise. they use pie dough instead of real pizza dough. A real disappointment. I had to try another place... So I searched for the original place, where it all started: Uno! So instead of a stuffed pizza, they serve real deep dish pizza. Better overall, better toppings, but... Still that pie dough! I will never get why Chicagoans use pie dough instead of real pizza dough. For me, it was better reheated the next day in the microwave, really weird pizza... You still have to try it, it's just not for me.
Came in on a chilly Thursday afternoon straight from the airport. We were greeted by a very nice server and a bartender. The restaurant wasn't busy. We ordered small pizza Uno $21.99 as of January 2022 and an appetizer "shrimp and crab dip" $12.99. They warn you that the pizza takes about 40 minutes to be made and they mean it. Shrimp and crab dip was amazing. Very creamy and served hot. A small pizza is divided into 4 very generous slices, and one was plenty for me. It tasted kinda homemade, which I liked. Overall, good experience and great food!
Haven’t had deep dish pizza since probably since 2003. Too enjoyable of an experience. Came here with a colleague and we both sincerely enjoyed our pizzas. Staff was great. Pricing was good too for what you get. Part of the Chicago experience
This is by far the best pizza I have had. The birthplace of deep dish pizza. The pizza was so delicious that I even enjoyed eating the crust. This place is a must visit when you ever visit Chicago. The staff was courteous and friendly! Cozy place… great place to rendezvous with friends and family.
Of all the pizza joints in this town. We happen to end up here. Service and food selection was excellent. Our waitress was charming and helpful with offering recommendations. The pizza was so good. Excellent place to have a couple of drinks and food after a day of sight seeing. Highly recommend if you are near by. If ever in town will definitely visit again.
This place is really cool! Being the foodie and history enthusiast that I am, It is amazing to see and experience where food history was made! This place is quaint and old school! We went around 2PM and it was still very busy, but we were able to get a table right away. It was a cozypretty tight to be honest fit as the dining area is small and the tables are close together, but it made for an atmosphere of nostalgia mixed with a classic Chicago neighborhood vibe. They told us it would be 45 minutes for pizza due to how busy it was, but we got ours much quicker than that. The pizza was great, and the marinara was some of the best I have had! Overall this is a must visit if you want to experience where Chicago Style Deep Dish was introduced to the world!
Came here because it was right around the corner from where we were staying. We were told it would be a 40 minute wait. That did not discourage us from eating here. 10 minutes later we were seated. It was a beautiful day and thought about sitting outside but there were people begging for money from those sitting outside. Food wise it was good, not knock your socks off but just good. The crust was not like regular pizza crust. It was more like a pie crust which to me kinda messed it up. They also go very light on the sauce. Got the salad and it was a big bust. 90% of the lettuce was hard, white pieces. The best part of our meal were the mozzarella sticks.
For a Sunday evening it was quiet and it suited us. The veggie deep dish is really tasty. The crust is perfectly baked - just enough hardness to give it a slight crunch. Florence’s soup was, a bit on the tart side. But over all nice. I removed one star only because the place looked like a dump. They need to shine it up a bit and make it more inviting.
