The New Canton Restaurant is an off the radar establishment that house's great culinary skill.
That skill belonging to Chef Jack Xie who originally started in Guongzhou as an apprentice cook at two of the city's
famous and oldest restaurants the " Tao Tao Ju " and '' The Guongzhou Restaurant".
There he trained in the preparation of dim sum for yum cha ( high tea time) and in the classic dishes of the cantonese and sichuan repertoire.
Jack then came to Canada and started work at Xin Shui Hua in Richmond (2003-2004). He then moved to Vancouver and worked at " Kirin " (high end Cantonese and Mandarin)
from 2005-2007.Jack returned to Richmond and started at the "Sea Harbour Seafood Restaurant and was there from 2008 to 2011 before finally coming to Qualicum Beach to open the New Canton Restaurant.
Chef Jack Xie's professional skill takes the standard items expected in a small town cafe and re-invigorates them to the classics that they originally are. Light,bright and full on flavour that will give you pause to reflect on what's happening to your taste buds... the anticipation and relishing of the next bite.
Jack and his wife Li Yan Bing work very hard to make their customers feel comfortable and right at home.
