Musée Dufresne-Nincheri

About

The Château Dufresne, built between 1915 and 1918, was a beaux-arts style mansion owned by the Dufresne brothers, leading members of Montreal’s French bourgeoisie. Today, the Château Dufresne houses a museum dedicated to the history of Montreal’s east end.

The Museum conceives and presents permanent and temporary exhibitions. We also offer cultural and educational activities concerning the history of Montreal's working class, french-canadian bourgeoisie, architecture and Quebec's overall history from 1850 to 1960.

The building holds two distinct houses, both symetrical, which cost over a million dollars in 1915! It was built by two brothers, Oscar and Marius Dufresne, members of early 20th century french-canadian bourgeoisie.

Guido Nincheri (1885-1973) decorated most of Oscar's house in the 1920's and constitutes his most important secular work in North America.

Splendid Beaux Arts rooms. The take-along tablet is informative. One of Montreal's best kept secrets.
Interesting to visit a historical building and seeing how a wealthy family lived. They guided tour on the iPad was useful.
Beautiful place if you like to visit places such as old houses/palaces
The history in this chateau is amazing, I took a class on this stuff and now I'm able to witness the real deal.
We arrived an hour before closing so there was no one in the house so it felt like we had a private tour. The house is incredible , I would suggest you get the audio tour so you can learn more about each room.
