Murasaki Japanese Restaurant

Nice neighbourhood Japanese restaurant in Newport Village, Port Moody. They have a few little semi private rooms. Ambiance was good. It wasn’t too busy on a Saturday night so we got seated right away. The menu selection wasn’t that big but nonetheless, it contained the type of Japanese food we wanted. We received complementary sushi from the chef which was a really nice gesture. My friend and I ordered the same beef curry and unfortunately, it wasn’t the best choice. Not sure if we just didn’t order the right food but I wouldn’t order curried dishes in a Japanese restaurant again. It was tasteless and the base seemed to have been thickened by cornstarch with artificial curry flavors. I can’t say for sure this is how they prepared it but it tasted like it. Wasn’t keen on the dish at all. Lots of rice and barely any beef. I just ended up picking out and eating the beef and veggies and leaving the rice. I’ve been to this restaurant before and I was satisfied with their sushi. The price is a little on the high side for complete dinners ranging from $18 – 22. Overall, on this visit, I didn’t feel like I got the value for the price I paid.

Friendly, speedy service and good value for the sushi. Sunomono was frozen when they first brought it but they quickly replaced it.

I like getting into the “booths” little private rooms really make an intimate dining experience, the opposite of eating elsewhere in the restaurant. Decent prices and friendly servers.

Food was high quality, delicious and came quickly. Ambiance was nice, relaxing after a long day.

Food tastes good. Their estimated time for pick-up orders is frequently off by large margin. Most recently, was quoted 30 minutes, showed up in 35, and wait an additional 25 minutes before cancelling my order and going elsewhere.
