Had 2 usual fish & chips and 1 spicy fish with chips. The spicy fish just had some chilli flakes added to the batter - not spicy though. As always cooked while you wait and generous portion size with reasonable prices. Nice deco, clean and friendly staff
Fish was very tasty and nice detest batter on fish, but this was not tasted exquisite but cooked to perfection The chunky chips also were delicious. Staff are friendly enough, They should start taking cards at the moment they accept only cash . They have quite an extensive menu for a fish and chip shop and if you want traditional tasting food, then this is the place to get it from despite their being numerous eateries in close proximity. Highly recommended. Will be going back to sample more of their menu. Place is nice and clean
In terms of fish and chips this place is solid I would give it a 9/10, the fish is perfectly crispy on the outside, soft and flakey on the inside and not too crispy either where it becomes like a ninja throwing star. The chips are not too oily, outside is nicely golden and not overly hard or too soft and the inside is perfectly fluffy. My nephew had the curry sauce and said it was very nice and has decent flavour. Lastly the onion rings are beautiful best I've had compared to most takeaways I've tried they are crispy on the outside and the onion is soft and sweet definitely worth a try. Sauces are heinz so decent. The reason why I will not give a perfect score lies in the customer service it isn't great. They seem to not understand English very well so you'll have to repeat yourself a few times but they will get there eventually if you are patient. Also you have to pay like 30p for sauces which is madness because 1 ketchup isn't enough so bring your own. The 1 tartar sauce is definitely enough but might not be for others. Besides that there is plenty of seating places and space so it doesn't feel too cramped when it gets busy.
First time coming in to this eatery in the late afternoon before 5pm since it's opening over a few years ago when they had the opening promotion with long queues. Largely empty since then, however, decided to try anyway. Friendly service by the young staff members at the counter till. They did try to offer an almost double the priced item Super Jumbo meal on menu as apparently it will be a better deal whether it's Standard or Special Fish & Chips will be the same size, just that it was better. When pointed out the price is not the same, she couldn't carry on with the reasoning, regardless, we chose a large fish and chips. Fish was tasting ok after we had filtered out the amount of oil all over and permeating from the unsavoury batter and crumbs. Chips were the usual steak version, tasted raw for some reason. Drinks are pricey for a fish and chip shop, more in line with Central London price. £1.20 can of drink naturally did not part with that amount of money in this shop - Fake search online 'fake condiment' Artificial liquid - not real vinegar, just liquid described as '- ' what appears or should be clear version and the darker container is described as ' '. You'll note I'm not going to even quote the v.n.g.r word so Google does not accept it as a positive keyword for marketing and suggestions purposes. Salt - real from tasting. Sauces - The first ever fish and chips place I've come across that does not offer the sauces as standard. They charge 40p. I would not recommend this place. Kid-friendliness: Toddler seat available Wheelchair accessibility: Slight hump at the door, however, street level shop floor Dietary restrictions: Halal
1st time ordering from this place. Fish had a nice crispy batter, chips were ok, portion size was maybe a tad small for my liking. Place was clean and tidy and staff were friendly
Ordered through Uber Eats, as cannot put a review there had to do it through here. Worse fish and chips ever! Never again in my life... chips were really dry and cold oh and uber driver stopped somewhere else before coming to me and fish really cold taking into consideration delivery time. Obviously not cooked fresh as was also very quick at sending out the driver after receiving my order. Not only was delivery charge extortionate but food was inedible. No way of reaching the restaurant either and no chance of cancelling order on Uber eats after placing it. A waste of almost £15.00 just for a cold fish and a small portion of dry cold chips.
Lovely place. Nice, clean, spacious, very well presented. Staff are friendly too. We had the fish and chips, with mushy peas, and gravy too. Price is very reasonable. Fish and chips is as good as you will get anywhere. Mushy peas also very nice and fresh. Gravy was awesome, best I've had by far. Overall very good quality, presentation and value for money. The only negative I have is they don't take card payments, as this day and age, and with the current Covid climate, I find it outrageous that's a restaurant only takes cash. Especially even when most market traders take card payment. Disappointed. I would 100% give this place a 5* .. but have to reduce 1* for the payment limitation. Definitely recommend this place, worth a try, I will definitely go back again.
After waiting about 20 minutes for my curry, fish & chips, with me as the only customer in the restaurant, I must admit I very nearly walked out on this my first visit, but then realised I had already paid and to be fair they were busy with other orders. I'm glad I stayed, but that's where they lost a star in this review For £7.45 you'll get the best fish & chips around, and for a few pence more you can get spicy chips or cheesy chips for something different. I opted for the curry sauce at 95p. Oh, and you can pay contactless now! The fish was delicious: fresh crispy batter - as many on here have already said - and quite a large piece of cod it was too! Or maybe it was Icelandic haddock, not sure. Chunky chips, and plenty of them, served in a fancy takeaway box rather than on a plate was a nice touch - though I didn't like the plastic cutlery much. In short, currently the best chippy around East Ham, and for those who prefer it, you can order online and either collect the order yourself, or have it delivered to your door The prices are reasonable, and the menu extensive: not many other chip shops around here offer the likes of scampi, onion rings, peri peri pasties, homemade pies - try the cheese 'n' onion - and a kiddies menu that serves fish or chicken bites, or fish fingers and beans for the little ones for about £4.25 Located in what really is a very clean restaurant that seats about 50, Mother Hubbard's is neatly furnished with photos of London in days gone by: there's ample seating with tables for two, four, or six people, the decor all nice and bright with an easy to read menu above the counter, and friendly and welcoming staff. Oh, and if you're the type that gets cold easily, you'll be pleased to know it was lovely and warm on this cold January night! I have no doubt the air-conditioning will be just as good in the summer Just round the corner from West Ham's old Boleyn ground in a well-lit area, served by lots of buses and nearby Upton Park Station, it's open till 11pm every night - not sure about Sunday - and best of all, there's not a burger or kebab in sight - a refreshing change for the area!
First visit, pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness and great service. Ordered the fiery fish and chips also regular cod and chips. The food took about 10-15 minutes to be served. The food was nicely presented and was fresh. Chips were perfect, very crisp. The fiery fish was crispy and fresh. The fiery flavour was a tandoori style masala, it looked great tasted nice but didn't have the fire which I was after. The regular cod was perfect, crisp all around, no soggy bits and the fish was clean and tasted perfect. One star lost to the lack of spice in the fiery fish also a can of coke is £1.25!! which is a massive bump for the area the shop is based. Definitely recommend you to try.
Very clean and good layout. Customer service was friendly and helpful. Food was just right..not oily, fish was good portion. Fish burger was great! Only let down was they didn't serve us properly. They decided to keep us waiting while they did their online orders 1st. That was rude and inconsiderate!.. we waited 30mins before asking where is our order..only then after about 5-7 mins did our order arrive. Fish & chips ...30mins?...maybe they were peeling the potatoes, while the fisherman was being our fresh fish ‍‍ Can't knock the fish and chips... probably one of the best we had....just the service was a little slow.... Word of advice for owners: Keep the online order separate to the counter...it works!
