First time in. Wanted to do a little karaoke. It was busy and the karaoke went down and they had to go to a manual clipboard system and it was kind of messy. Wild crowd. Weird, chaotic vibe. But we stayed for about a half hour and a song, then went outside for a cigarette. Then we decided to order a pizza. My boyfriend went inside to order one to take home with us. We stood outside for a few more minutes and went to go back in and check on our pizza and the door guy said they were at capacity, and was SUPER rude to us and REFUSED to let us inside to get our pizza that we had just paid $30 for. Talking to us like we were some kind of punkazz patrons. Being rude to other people coming to the door. I had to tell him FOUR TIMES that we were customers and we had just stepped outside for a minute and we had ordered a pizza. He was saying we were "in and out" all night LIKE WHAT?We just came outside one time and then went in to order a pizza and give the establishment more money and he wants to yell at people and treat them like they are some kind of trash. We won't be back. Pizza was ok we got a Hawaiian that had about 4 pieces of tiny ham on the whole thing.
Well, coming from Monterey, I was surprised to see a restaurant in Spokane themed after our little beach town. But, it is was a welcome surprise. Solid food, friendly staff, surf boards. It felt like home. I had the Cobb salad and it was on point. I think pizza and booze is there specialty. That, and their bar. Still, cool, relaxed spot to grab food or drinks in downtown Spokane.
Don’t sit on their pizza. Order fresh and be impressed.
They almost always have karaoke, which isn't bad. Feels a little dicey but really isn't... Only has one bathroom, total. Great pizza, don't even have to stay for the atmosphere lol
Fun karaoke bar with plenty of pizza and good times on hand. Was pretty cold in there in the evening on account of being VERY well ventilated.
On the 8th Annual BoozeRun 2018, stopped in to collect our Pin for Monterey Cafe, 6th stop of 9. We've been here several times before... this is a great late night stop for buge slices of pizza on the way home from a night of bar hopping. There's indoor and outdoor seating but the place is always packed with the Karaoke crowd. Another popular night-time destination for Spokane.
If you had asked me my opinion on Monterey Cafe a few years ago, I would have told you to stay away. Terrible service, high prices, and the worst karaoke host I've ever experienced. I don't know when or why things changed, but I'm so glad I recently gave Monterey another chance. The pizza is one of the best pies downtown, no doubt. The bartenders are friendly and pour delicious drinks. The bouncer keeps a friendly crowd inside and hotheads outside. And the karaoke host, Jess, keeps a tight rotation, a balanced mixer, and throws down some incredible songs herself. This review is for those of you who, like me, got a bad taste in your mouth from the old Monterey. Give them another shot!
Great Karaoke bar. Staff is fun and friendly, great drink prices and they have excellent pizza as well. I believe they have a "power hour" from 8-9 where you get pizza slices and beers for a $1.00. Great place to hang with friends and belt out some tunes.
Stopped off by this place after the Comedy Club and were treated to one of the best pizza experiences we have ever had. Each ingredient is discernible making up a wonderful mix of flavor sensations. The crust is unique, and not traditionally a fan of crust, must say that this one is quite well flavored. Service was prompt, friendly and not overdone. Monterey Cafe is certainly worth the trip to downtown Spokane for this incredible pizza experience.
Awesome little bar to get pizza and food late at night. If you like karaoke this is a great spot for you. Joe and Kristine are really friendly and they make you feel at home
