Montana Ale Works

About

Serving casual-eclectic cuisine, mostly Montana beers, great wines and classic cocktails in a small town pub with a big city vibe.

Story

Proud to be locally owned & operated.
Since March 2000, Montana Ale Works' hip, fun and friendly staff has been dedicated to serving scrumptious food, frothy pints and killer cocktails in a cool, big ol' railroad warehouse in downtown Bozeman. Originally a warehouse owned by the railroad, we thought this cool and funky old building had so much character it should live on as our dream - a bar, restaurant, and local hang out for the whole community.
Montana Ale Works employees are the soul of our company. Our success depends upon their collective energy, savvy and passion. We are chock full of talented performers, who share their enthusiasm with our customers nightly.
Whether it's food and drink or customer service, we're constantly innovating, experimenting, evaluating and evolving. Our passion is to create Bozeman's best place to hangout, get full and have fun. We look forward to serving you.
Open 7 days a week at 4:00pm.

Friends who live locally suggested this place. It does get busy and is recommended to call ahead of time. Does have a decent amount of seating but was very busy. The lights above our table kept flickering which made it seem like they were dimming the lights and then turning them back on.nnThe food was amazing! There were no complaints from anyone in our group. They also had some unique drinks I haven’t seen anywhere else such as the spicy pickle martini.
We had a big group come in from out of town and we had called a couple days in advance to get a reservation. When we showed up, it was as if they were not expecting us as they put us at 4 different small tables “within the same area”. This was a huge bummer for us as we didn’t get to socialize or really eat with one another. Thankfully our waitress and the food made up for this disappointment. Our waitress was so kind and personable. My husband and I got the risotto which was alright and the chicken sandwich which was the best one he has ever had. We had the house made tots which were delicious, the Tri tip appetizer, also great, full of flavor, and the cheesecake and creme brûlée, both of which we would recommend. We also had the huckleberry mule which was so tasty as well!nnThe atmosphere was great! Active and social, different types of seating and it was not too loud to where you couldn’t hear.nnI’d recommend checking out this place if you’re in town!
I'm starting off by saying I truly can't remember the last time I didn't have any leftovers from a restaurant.nFrom appetizers to the entrees, then dessert - we ate everything.nnService: 10/10nHands down some of the absolute best service I've had in my life.nSarah is a gem.nUpon being seated, her rundown of specials and recommendations was thorough without feeling pushy.nWith how busy they were, I was surprised at how attentive she was.nConsistently checking in, clearing our plates as soon as we finished, and time to chat with us a bit.nSarah - you rocked!nnFood: 10/10nBest meal I've had in a long time.nWe started off with the meatball sliders and the potstickers per Sarah's recommendation.nThey were both delicious - the meatball sliders being our favorite.nMy boyfriend had the meatloaf, and I had the hatchburger. Both entrees were flavorful and perfectly prepared.nWe ended with the carrot cake, again, per Sarah's recommendation.nHands down the best carrot cake I've had.nnThe ingredients for the food are fresh, and the plating/presentation of the dishes was far better than expected for a brewery style eatery.nnDrinks: 10/10nA lot of options for everyone - specialty cocktails, good selection of beer/wine, the works.nSarah recommended a locally distilled Gin to me that was phenomenal.nnAtmosphere: 10/10nLove the overall ambiance. The staff is very welcoming, Facilities and bathrooms had great upkeep and very clean.nnOverall, it was an incredible experience.nI would NOT pass this place up.
Montana Ale Works checks all the boxes - great food, extensive menu with a range of prices, great cocktails and beer selection, beautifully restored former freight house -- only knock against it is the noise level in this large busy restaurant which is why it took my inlaws so long to take us here - tough to have a conversation.nnWe started out with drinks and apps - bison dumplings and matchstick truffle fries. The Old Faithful cocktail was a standout and the apps were awesome. They also have an extensive beer list. We had some of the specials Alaskan Halibut and a huge pork chop, the fish tacos and the buttermilk chicken sandwich. Prices for entrees start around $20 so this place really can be experienced affordably which is nice for repeat visits.nnYou can get everything from a salad to enchiladas to steak to fish to burgers. Even the pickiest eater can find something they'd like.nnUsually we skip desert when dining out but this was a wedding anniversary dinner so we indulged - creme brulee, brownie with ice cream --- all great. Service was good also.nnAnother plus is the large solar array on the roof. Any business committed to lowering their carbon footprint gets a thumbs up from me!
The establishment had a vibrant atmosphere with amiable staff. The monarch elk burger was quite delectable, and the bison steak had merits. Nonetheless, we found the temperature of the food to be somewhat lacking, as both the burger bun and the steak plate were cold. The portion sizes seemed a bit small.nnPlenty of seating was available, and the selection of beers on tap was impressive. While we appreciated the attentiveness of the staff, their level of attention at times hindered our ability to savour our sit-down meal fully.nnThey have daily specials and draft rotators on tap. Wheelchair and pram friendly.
