Excellent menu options. They also offer vegetarian and gluten free options. On the night we visited, service was s-l-o-w. We ordered the large charcuterie board which seemed skimpy compared to previous visits. Some food items were under-seasoned. Service was friendly and reasonably attentive.
Delicious food. Great service. Very beautiful and clean restaurant. All on top of their very affordable prices. The only downside is they do not have their own parking lot and you need to walk from the forks parking lot. Would 100% recommend so long as you don't mind a short walk to get there.
Cozy place, unique location, food is excellent and views are fabulous! My kids gave this place five stars. Our server Allan was very professional, "polite and fun" according to my kids. We received great food and service there. I will highly recommend this restaurant for couples or families. The place is very popular, make sure you have reservations during busy hours.
I've been to Mon Ami Louis a couple of times over the years and the experiences have always been positive. The predominantly French food has been decent, the service good, etc. If you get a good seat, there are beautiful views of the Red River below and the Human Rights Museum a short distance away. Parking is sometimes frustrating, but there is generally lots of space on the St. Boniface side of Provencher.
Stopped in to try something different for Sunday lunch. One of if not the first customers in for the day. Beautiful view of the river as expected. The service was top notch. We had the salmon August special with salad - excellent, tasty and well put together. We also had the Esplanade burger with duck fat fries - I will admit a bit of wariness with the fries, but they were really tasty! Burger was well put together. I'll be taking my summer out-of-town guests here.
Were were lucky to have come by after summer opening. This unique, seasonal, venue hangs out over the river with spectacular views all around. The French cuisine was exquisite and the wine list very tasty. It was a great way to celebrate the end of of troponin Winnipeg.
My wife and I loved this place. Everything was perfect. Delicious beet and pear salad, crepes were fantastic. Paul, our waiter was very attentive and helpful. The location speaks for itself. We didn’t have reservations early on Saturday evening but the hostess managed to get us a table anyway. So glad she did.
On Tues, August the 7th, I booked a table for 3 , at 6:30 pm, via the online booking option from their website. Special request was made to be seated next to the window,as we were bringing a friend from Vancouver with us, as part of our celebrating becoming Canadian Citizens the next day. It was a special evening for us all. When we arrived, we got the table I requested. Thank you for that. I understand that due to the uniqueness and layout of the restaurant, larger groups sometimes takes precedence to smaller groups, when it comes to allocating window seating. I respect that. Our evening turned out to be a most memorable experience. Thank you guys. The food was excellent, and everybody at the table were very impressed with the restaurant, the staff, the food, and especially our server. She was simply outstanding. I had the Spinach Salad , it was equisite. Shaved fennel, pears, feta cheese, toasted walnuts, dried cranberries, lemon basil vinaigrette, this dish was simply superb. As a main course I had Braised Beef Brisket, tender brisket in sauce with potato gratin and topped with crispy onions, carrots, mushrooms, and beets. This too was excellent. One of the highlights though, our server sadly, I cant recall her name. Again, her service was impeccable. Polite, friendly, confident and knowledgeable on what the restaurant offers. It takes a special skill for a server not to be around when you dont need her, but to be there when you do. It's a skill very few servers have, and that is to be aware of your surroundings, to be aware of what is happening at your guests table, and to anticipate when a need might arise. She was superb, please thank her for me.
The restaurant is in bad shape! I have been in many restaurants around Winnipeg and this one is the worst in this price category. The staff is very lovely but it does not compensates all other cons. The first and biggest con is that the restaurant is dirty! I found a piece of dirty piece of cloth beside windows, I think staff were wiping windows they are very dirty and they dropped it and left it The glasses are not clean, floor is all covered with nuts or breadcrumbs and chairs look like they will fall apart when you try sit on them. Second biggest con is that food and drinks are not fresh. I have ordered the expenzsivest burger they have 17.99 and it tasted like the ingredients were in the freezer for a year and then they gave it to me like it should be that way. Also I ordered poutine with coke, and they were horrible too. The gravy in poutine were like they added twice as much water into it so poutine tasted like dried fries with salty water on it topped with cheese curds from last year. The coke is whole different story. I have seen the waiter pouring mocked from a hose, well I thought it is special hose ONLY for coke, but five minutes later I see the waiter uses same hose to fill it with ice tea or something. You would think the coke would at least taste with a little note of tea in it but it is not, it’s is like I’m drinking aged coke with powdered ice tea with no fizzles! I didn’t even started drinking that coke. Third and last big con is the design of the restaurant. There is second floor filled with junk but they cover it with Chinese dividers so no one could see the junk but dividers them self’s look like junk and they don’t cover the junk all the way. Also in the kitchen there is same dividers to cover food shelfs but with same success as in the first floor it looks bad. Then there is tables with chairs, they don’t look good too. The only way I would recommend this restaurant is if they completely redesign their restaurant but until then I will not recommend this restaurant to anyone.
The novelty of this establishment, is without question, its location. Perched smack dab over the mighty Red River, a true destination, specially if you have guests visiting from out of town. The menu is take on familiar fare, with a French twist. It was prepared well, and the food came out promptly. The portions are adequate. There is a small parking lot available for patrons, north of provencher, on Tache, it the gravel parking lot, not the paved. Be aware there tends to be some questionable elements that gather by the fountain near the lot, dont leave anything of potential value visible. That's more of a statement of Winnipeg down town in general.
