Grilled cheese sandwiches made with organic sourdough bread and house-made ingredients
At Millwood Melt, we specialize in making unique versions of everyone's favourite childhood sandwich -- the GRILLED CHEESE! And not just the classic kind, but also yummy creations lovingly prepared using fresh, local, and handmade ingredients.
You can build a melt of your own creation or enjoy one of our 4 signature sandwiches:
Rise n' Shine: Canadian cheddar, herbed eggs, bacon, tomatoes, & our awesomesauce
Green Machine: Monterey jack, our own basil pesto, herbed avocados, & arugula (which we grow ourselves, season permitting)
Hamelot: Canadian swiss, unpasteurized honey mustard, smoked ham, & homemade caramelized onions
Tuna Kahuna: cheddar, our tuna salad, seasoned tomato slices
All sandwiches are served on organic St. John's Bakery bread. Both white and multigrain are available. We also have gluten-free bread on hand and carry vegan cheddar for those of you who aren't keen on gluten or dairy.
Kids and students can enjoy a combo meal at a discount price, which includes a kid-sized cheddar melt, juice/pop, and Veggie Straw Chips (tasty, all-natural chips shaped into french fries).
Here at Millwood Melt, we also love to change things up a bit from time to time. So you may find our cheeses and specials evolving, depending on what’s in season or who’s inspiring us! During the cooler months, we also make from-scratch soups and stews.
Most importantly, we want you to feel at home in our kitchen. We may be a small shop, but we aim to make it a cozy, friendly neighbourhood hangout for all ages. Bring your laptop, invite your friends and family. Play a board game or two. Check out some inspiring local art featured on our walls. And come back again (and again!) for sensational grilled cheese and a warm, homey reception.
Finally, with both of us having worked on farms ourselves, it’s important to us that we support local Ontario producers in our community whenever possible. There are many reasons for this choice, but in sum, we believe local food is fresher and more nutritious, and buying local provides a sense of connection between you, the food you eat, and the people who grow it.
The following featured vendors have been instrumental in inspiring our menu, and we are proud to serve their products to you:
*ST. JOHN'S BAKERY: We are proud to support one of Toronto's finest and most unique artisan bakeries. Each bread loaf is shaped by hand and is made with natural and organic ingredients only. St. John's also provides employment and training opportunities for folks in transition.
*MERCHANTS OF GREEN: Locally renowned roastery specializes in sourcing premium, sustainable green coffee beans from around the world. They import and roast exclusively 100% arabica coffees, which are double-certified (fair trade & organic).
We also grow our own lovage and arugula (from spring to fall) for our popular Green Machine sandwich and homemade tomato soup. It doesn't get more local than that!
Pop in for a visit one of these days – we look forward to melting your heart with our gooey goodness and quirky sense of fun! ;)
With love,
Steve & Aniko
