We spent time at Meridian Playground, off 50th between Meridian N and Sunnyside N, on an overcast June Saturday in early afternoon. The park was busy with many small groups walking, playing with dogs, enjoying playground toys with kids, gardening in the Good Shepherd P-Patch. The large park sprawls across a few city blocks, with areas broken up nicely to accommodate several large groups at once. Beautiful mature trees and flowering foliage surround the park, and everything was newly green, with baby birds chirping above us. Free parking is available at the Good Shepherd Center - though limited, but the most convenient parking I found was free, on the street on Meridian N, between N 46th - N 49th. Look for stairs up to the park from Meridian N, and other walking entrances along 50th & Sunnyside N. Good Shepherd Center, a landmark on the National Register of Historic Places, is part of Meridian Playground on the east edge. Playground equipment is central in the park, with views to large playfields, the Good Shepherd Center, and the art deco style restrooms. Restrooms are generally open on weekends; during the week Good Shepherd Center makes their bathrooms available. Meridian Playground is one of those parks you've known about forever because of the beautiful arch sculpture at 50th & Meridian N, but have you visited?
This park used to be much nicer several years ago. However in it's current state, it's not well maintained and heavily littered. I don't feel comfortable looking away from my toddler for even a couple seconds even with my husband also attentively watching her by my side as we don't know what random trash she'll find and try to pick up. During the hour we were there, we also witnessed an adult male peeing on a tree within the park, but very much in sight of the playground where my 21 month old was playing. There was also an off leash large dog on our way out where the owner expected us to kick the tennis ball since his dog couldn't find the few he already has thrown. The dog wasn't menacing in any way, but well over 50 from its owner and running wildly... Not sure why he wouldn't go to the dog park half a mile away? Regarding the playground, it's a bit small, but interesting. There are unique slides for elementary school kids to play on. Sadly, the play structure for the little ones was a bit beaten down. It's beyond just a pressure washing and staining and now needs a lot more TLC and a replacement board for the wobbly bridge to fill in the gap . My daughter loved it and the danger made it a challenge she wanted to tackle over and over and over again. I hope the city cleans up the parks better. This one has definitely been put on the back burner for too long.
its a nice park. very community hidden spot. seems like people already know people. most kids r small age0-3yo. lots of green field n picnic table. the public toilet is filthy but has a diaper table.
Also known as Good Shepherd park also features a pea patch and community garden with some rare and exotic plants. There's a lot of greenery and flowers in the park the community volunteers put in a lot of hard work and several houses in the area also have beautiful gardens. I really enjoyed the bronze dog in the playground area it's very lifelike with a great attention to detail, a friendly expression, and it's fun to ride.
Great playground for all ages. The whole park itself is well kept and has cute little artistic details and beautiful gardens. There are basketball hoops. Wish we brought our ball!
Nice park with good play structures for a range of ages. My 13 month son loves coming here and walking on the paths, seeing the dogs, and going in the swings. Typically many parents and kids around there’s an elementary school in the park area that uses it for recess and after school. Everyone I have encountered has been friendly and respectful.
Walk through May Day here with some photos from my YouTube channel video, watch full video on 4k Family Fun Walk?
Very unique urban park in North Seattle. There is an awesome play structure with plenty for kids to do. It has an interesting garden attached to it that you can walk around in.
Fun fun fun. Large grassy areas and toy structures. Wednesday is farmers market
Quirky shaded playground with a large field surrounded by an apple orchard. Great open park and playground for hosting group gatherings. The summer Wednesday evening farmers market is a neighborhood gem for young families!
