Travellers, this place has a wonderful tavern atmosphere and a laid. Back feeling that makes it easy to enjoy the great food. We came for appetizers and split several and it was delightful. We had the Caesar salad, tuna tacos, and the shrimp toast which were all delicious and well prepared. The shrimp toast were a treat and don't make appearances on many menus. They were crispy and well done but not greasy. Check it out. We recommend.
Stopped in for a drink after a long drive from Maine. The staff was friendly and attentive. Sophisticated appearance as you view the bar area, decor and the uniforms the staff wear. A nice spot to get the driving/riding angst out of your system. Tried the shrimp ceviche as well. Great presentation.
Went here for a birthday dinner. Staff was very nice and attentive. Food was very good. Highly recommend the Spicy Tuna Wanton Tacos for an appetizer.
Our server was attentive as well and we didn't have to wait a long time before our food came despite the restaurant being relatively busy. Our food was really good! The steak frites were excellent - perfectly cooked and a nice sized portion given it was lunch. My friend enjoyed his chicken caprese sandwich with housecut fries. I was so impressed by the quality of the food - it's clear they make it in house. I will definitely be back!
First time coming here for my fiance bday and it was so good. The service was wonderful and the food was as well.
Max's Tavern has a nice interior. I ordered the NY strip with the Chimichurri sauce. I expected the sauce to be on the side and not over the steak, but it is not a big deal. Food was average at best and definitely not reflected in the price.
Were staying at nearby hotel to visit Basketball Hall of Fame the following day. Hotel recommended a few restaurants in the same complex as Hall of Fame. We looked at reviews and decided to try Max’s. Don’t let the word “tavern” throw you off. We expected a local dive and found a middle to upscale restaurant. We realized we were underdressed as we were wearing shorts and casual wear. The host was not concerned and offered us a table in the bar or the dining room. Both were beautiful. We ate in the dining room. Server was friendly and efficient. Our meals were delicious and the cheddar biscuits served before the meal with honey butter were amazing. If in the area again, we will definitely return. Everyone working in the restaurant was friendly, acknowledged us when we walked through on way in and out and said good night. Really nice place.
Super romantic spot and you wouldn’t even guess by the random location , their complimentary honey butter and cheddar biscuits are to - die - for - the blackened chicken is soooo good
I understand the spinach salad dressing is warm, but the spinach was totally cooked & soggy. In fact, the waiter came to our table asking who gets a side of spinach, so he didn’t recognize it as a salad either. It was smothered in Gorgonzola , overtaking any other flavor-way too much. I had to take most of it off. If I wanted cooked spinach, I would have ordered it from the side menu. The crab cake tasted old/very fishy. The waitress was very pleasant.
I have been to this restaurant many times, including several to go and delivery orders. I was looking for a place to host fifteen to twenty people for lunch to celebrate the adoption of my daughters. I called Max's Tavern and the manager was pleasant enough when I explained what I was looking to do but balked a little at the suggestion of my bringing my own cake. After we spoke, I was shocked when he emailed me a catering contract that required the rental of a room, a $500 deposit, and the selecting of two appetizer, entree, and dessert choices, with a three hour room rental. I waited a lot of tables in my college days and waited on several large groups who ordered off the menu with no issues. If that's a problem for them and wanted to offer a few lunch and appetizer selections with guests choosing beforehand for prep purposes, no problem. I called Nadim's instead and ended up hosting the lunch there with no problems. It was wonderful. I ran into someone I know who works at Max's Tavern, and when I told them the story and questioned the catering ridiculousness, they laughed and said, "yeah, they really don't want the hassle of this type of business." Okay. They will never have to worry about my business again. Would never go back there for any reason.
