We love seeing Dr. Houghton. He has been very straight forward and honest throughout our pregnancy, though we have had a relatively uneventful pregnancy. He is personal and cares about you and baby. I appreciate his confidence and you can tell he loves his job. Any issues or concerns I have had he has addressed immediately. He is quick to call you back personally when you send a portal message. I just feel like my family is in really good hands. We are about 6.5 months along and it has been easy to schedule and work with John and I feel very safe during COVID. They have been good at spacing out patients. The clinic is clean, manage a janitorial business and some health practice offices are scary to go into. The entire staff is attentive, thoughtful, warm and welcoming! Glad John has made his way to Alaska and we stumbled upon him after having to cancel a few appointments in the beginning of the year with Christy and a busy schedule we were put on his schedule! So Happy this happened!
It was great until it wasn’t. They scheduled me with a male doctor after I’d been told I was a different provider. They didn’t tell me till I was in the room and waiting. They also billed my insurance incorrectly multiple times and still would never fix it. Along with all that when I asked them to transfer my files they gave me the hardest time and took forever. I was just trying to get the care I needed and they were consistently pushing back.
So thankful for this office. I just moved here from Arizona and loved my previous OB. I didn’t think another office could compare but they were everything I was hoping for and more. All of the staff is wonderful and Dr. South is so great. She is very professional and was very respectful to how I envisioned my birthing experience to go. Things went differently than expected as childbirth usually does but Dr. South was so supportive and took excellent care of me and made sure baby was delivered safely. Thank you Mat-Su Womens Health Specialists!
Do not recommend this office for any type of knowledgeable care. I went to this office to receive care for Pelvic Organ Prolapse - I could feel and see what was happening to my body and was terrified, while only being a few weeks postpartum as well. I was told by a female doctor in this practice who I won’t name, that I didn’t have any type of prolapse and that the uncomfortable feeling and sometimes pain I was living with every day would go away, but that I could use numbing cream if I felt like it helped. It didn’t go away. You are also not supposed to use lidocaine internally* After seeing another highly rated GYN that actually specializes in the Pelvic Floor, I was told that the doctor at Matsu was incorrect and I have a full trifecta of prolapse and am finally receiving the proper care and treatment. My quality of life has improved tremendously, but I still cannot help but think back to the number times I cried in this office asking for help because I knew it wasn’t in my head. While the doctors here may be nice, I would look elsewhere for quality care. Never again will I be brushed off by this practice.
Dr South is beyond amazing. I felt so comfortable and confident in her that I wish she could be my primary doctor. She addressed all my concerns with understanding and compassion. Spent time with me to be sure I felt comfortable! I have to say THANK YOU DR SOUTH!
I honestly have never received such horrible care in my life. We started seeing Meg at the beginning of my pregnancy and adored her. She is funny, down to earth and had exactly the kind of laid back attitude that we wanted. However, I experienced some complications and from there things went down hill quickly. I was sent for a complete ultrasound and it was days before anyone would get back to me with the results. I was told by a nurse that I had a cyst that could be a fibroid, then it changed to 2 hemorrhages, I was also told I might have kidney stones due to crystals in my urine. When I called back to find more information they seemed unconcerned about anything. I dealt with symptoms for 2 more weeks until my next appointment but was very disappointed when the nurse called to tell me they were cancelling my appointment because they had seen me 2 weeks earlier. I informed the nurse my appointment was a 5 minute er follow up and she insisted that was my routine check up. I decided to book with Dr. Cook and they didn't have anything for a month. I took the appointment and was called the next day saying they had an appointment 2 days later due to a cancellation. I booked the appointment right away. A nurse called to ask some follow up questions about my chart and to ask if I needed to be seen for symptoms and I said yes. She said that was fine but the time needed to change a little. Fast forward 2 days and I called the office to find out if my appointment was at 3 or 4. The front desk receptionist put me on hold for 10 minutes. The nurse I had spoken to earlier in the week said she was confused about me wanting to keep the appointment. I reminded her how the conversation went and she said they should have changed it and called me to confirm but didn't so now someone else was booked in that spot so they no longer had time to see me for MY APPOINTMENT. I told her I needed to be seen and described my symptoms to which she said I'm early enough 15 weeks that they can't really do anything if I'm miscarrying anyways so there's no reason to be seen. She said she could check if I could possibly see an RN and would get back to me. I NEVER heard back. The lack of compassion and organization of this place is appalling. I will be finding another doctor office who can pretend to care about me and my baby's health. I would strongly advise against coming here.
I’d recommend somewhere else. Their billing person was incredibly rude to me, my husband, and our insurance companies because she had to put in extra work to bill insurance.
I love this office. They seem to care a lot about me and my children. My husband has came to almost every appointment and they are totally fine with that. I was worried they might make me feel like I have an over protective husband. But no, they understand family and they like that he actually wants to be involved in everything that has to do with my pregnancy.
Dr. Christy South was very kind and gave me some great advice when I was last in.
I felt well taken care of throughout my whole pregnancy. And being high risk that is important to me. The ladies at Mat-su women’s healthcare specialists are friendly & knowledgeable and have been a great support system throughout my pregnancy.
