Our visit to the McHenry/Johnsburg Massage Envy was wonderful! The staff was professional, competent and FUN. If you haven't contacted them to determine the right options for you, do it now!
The reviews are miss leading personally. I wouldn't pay too much attention to the older ones. Raquel was amazing and the girls at the front desk were really nice. The only complaint I have was during the massage there was one song that was playing and honestly I couldn't tell if it was a guitar or some kind of similar instrument but it was an obnoxious song . Like I was vibing with the chill music and this song came out of no where and was more upbeat and out of place. Don't get me wrong if I wasn't in a massage place, I would have actually liked the song. I just thought it was an odd song to have on the list and then back to zen waterfall music.
My husband was in a motorcycle accident and was not cleared to use massage services for an extended period of time. No matter how many times we tried to cancel the monthly subscription, via fax and in-person, we were told he could only deal with one manager who was spread among several locations. He left message after message, and sent fax after fax authorizing his cancellation. We sent them from different locations after verifying the managers name, location and fax number. We tried to cancel for approximately a year, and we were assured it was terminated, until we were debited again the following month. We were told the manager would call us back, and didn't. I was present when he tried to cancel it in person, several times. Notes would be left for the manager on a notepad. Meanwhile, massages were accumulating and not being used. After it was finally canceled, we were reassured that the remaining 20+ massages could be used because it was terrible customer service. It was very hard to get appointments during non-working hours and we still had several massage credits left prior to the 2018 closing. We were told not to worry... that we could keep the remaining massages after new ownership had taken over. We were PROMISED by management that we would be able to use them... and guess what happened when I called today 6/10/19. Jenna Jenny? likes to cut people off... and she will remind you that new ownership doesn't have to honor old commitments. All they had to do was place a note in the account that we were told the services would expire. Never got that call or a message. I specifically remember being told that they "would definitely transfer when new ownership takes over." Thanks for being screwed over for literally... years!
Plenty of really great therapists. Always clean and never any scheduling issues.
This location cancelled two of my appointments within a week's time....right before my wedding. I understand there are family emergencies but the fact that this place doesn't have enough staff is a big problem because I have such a busy schedule and plan weeks in advance. So if you're like me, and need reliability, schedule with Lake Zurich. They have more staff and longer hours. I won't be scheduling with this location again.
Got a couple gift cards for here from my husband for Christmas. The place is really nice, super clean and everyone is very welcoming. The girl that did my massage did a fantastic job I will definitely go back!
I've been seen by many therapists at the McHenry/Johnsburg location and this is because it's hard to book with one therapist due to possible high turnover or limited scheduling with a particular therapist. I don't think the therapist techniques are consistent as some are variably different in pressure and how they massage. It seems like many are right out of school and need additional training and/or experience. When I walk in it also feels like I'm walking into a sorority, college town or somewhere unprofessional. For example, I was seen by Melinda who is very timid and felt I received a back rub versus a message. I appreciate that I can call and usually be seen by someone within 24 hours, but generally not by my preferred therapist.
Should have never signed up for the membership. I've had it 10 months but only had 3 massages. Unless you know your schedule in advance I wouldn't rec this place. It's impossible to get an appointment. I'm a single mom and just cannot plan far enough ahead to make it work.
Can't believe this place. Wish I could give zero stars... ya know I HAD an appointment, I got the confirmation call and showed up 15 mins before my appointment and they were completely closed. No notice nothing! I called back a few days later completely upset because that was mine and my boyfriends birthday presents, I talked to the manager and after explaining my concerns and frustration. She's told me she'd call me back... needless to say she never called back... I drove by the other day and they were shut down until further notice... so I never got any word back or anything and I'm still upset.
We had a very bad customer service experience at this location. I had a Massage Envy membership for almost 2 years. I enjoyed the service so much I had referred friends that signed up at other locations and my husband signed up at the Johnsburg location with me. I unfortunately had to cancel my service about 6 months ago due to finances. My husband continued his contract and unfortunately needed to cancel as well. We could not remember when he signed a contract, so he called the location and asked when he could cancel. We knew we were coming up on his one year. When he called the location at the end of July, they said he may fill out the form when he comes in for his massage on August 9th and it will be cancelled before our payment would be withdrawn on August 23rd. We ended up in the area a few days later, so he went inside the location to fill out the cancellation form at the beginning of August. He confirmed again with the front desk that he did not owe anything further and no further payments would be withdrawn. They confirmed again, yes. When he went in for his massage on August 9th, before leaving his massage he confirmed a 3rd time that his contract was over and cancelled. They confirmed. Last night on 8/10 we received a phone call from the manager there stating our contract was not over for an additional one month. My husband explained to her what 3 other employees had told him. She said she is sorry but there will be another payment this month and then he may cancel next month. He explained we are going through financial hardship and we took the word of three other employees that we did not need to make this payment for this month and have been counting on this knowledge for weeks. She said the payment would still come out. After my husband spoke with her, I called the location back and said I was a member there myself and I understand there is a contract but three employees told us we would not pay anything further and this word needs to be honored. I have given 5 Star reviews on Facebook and referred multiple co-workers to Massage Envy and I do not want to have a bad ending with this location as we hope to return as soon as we are able. She was very curt and cut me off responding "That's fine then, we will give you an immediate cancellation, thank you" and hung up on me. I am very sorry I received such bad management experience at this location as we had both hoped to come back and loved all of the therapists there. But her attitude is no way to conduct good business. I always see a high front desk turn over there and they struggle with even booking a simple massage and I wait quite a long while patiently. They need to fully train their employees and focus on this with their turn over. They should know how to read a contract.
