Marineland

Story

Marineland, is a themed amusement park and zoo for both marine and land animals, in the city of Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada. Opened in 1961, it is considered one of the main tourist attractions in Niagara Falls. The primary attractions at the park include the “world’s largest steel roller coaster” Dragon Mountain, “the world’s highest triple tower ride” the Sky Screamer, and its marine shows and exhibits of dolphins, walruses, sea lions, an orca, and beluga whales. The park also keeps bears, deer and other land animals.Since 2012, the park has been the subject of several allegations of poor conditions for its animals by former employees and animal activists have protested outside its gates on several occasions. The park has been inspected by the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and Canada's Accredited Zoos and Aquariums, many times over the years, some leading to orders issued by the OSPCA. In 2015, the Government of Ontario banned the practice of breeding and keeping orcas in captivity, while allowing Marineland to keep its one orca. Marineland's orca is therefore forced to live in captive social isolation, a situation with which Marineland itself has voiced displeasure. In November 2016 and January 2017, the OSPCA filed 11 animal cruelty-related charges against the park mainly related to land animals and birds. In February 2017, the OSPCA inspected Marineland again but found no issues of concern at that time. In May 2017, Marineland withdrew from CAZA claiming this was due to expansion-related work happening at the park, but stated that they would re-apply to CAZA once the work was completed. In August 2017, all of the charges were withdrawn.

I can't complain about the staff around the park, the people here were pleasant and the outside park was kept really clean. I actually only went in to check out the rides, the food here was typical mediocre fast food. The outside park area is quite nice as you can park there at no charge, bring your own food and drinks and just enjoy another sunny picnic at the park. Animal shows are not my thing so I did not attend any of them, therefore I cannot comment on that aspect of the park.

This place is disgraceful. With the information that we have now that the animals out here places like this shouldn't even exist. Even as a child that could recognize that the animals weren't well taken care of. I can't believe that Niagara Falls allows Marineland to remain open. Do not go here and support this sort of animal slavery.

This is a nice spot for a day trip. There is a little bit to do in the amusement park but over all it has kind of went down hill over the years. The animal attractions are still decent. The amusement park is spread out over a large area with lots of walking between rides.

Last time we went there the rides were either broken or not opened. The poor walruses looked so skinny and pale in colour. I honestly won't be taking my kids back. I feel for these animals. I'm not one of these crazy animal activists by any means I'm just a regular person that feels the place needs to have a complete over haul and something more should be put in place in ways of upkeeping the animals. I am sure being in chlorinated water when in the wild they wouldn't be isn't good either for them. The staff was friendly and helpful when I asked a few questions. The park was clean which was nice. The restaurants could have been a bit cleaner not saying it was disgusting just a little unorganized and there wasn't a big rush or anything. It would be nice if locals could be offered as admission discount as it is a bit much for what you actually have access to ( rides broken or not opened) .

We were skeptical of coming here but had some time to burn before returning to the states so we stopped in. What a treat!! My daughter LOVED feeding the beluga whales! We also really enjoyed seeing the falls from the top of the Sky Screamer. It had rained that day so the park wasn't very busy which made it even more enjoyable. Overall it was a fantastic visit.
