Third time here. The first and second times were absolutely wonderful! My wife had just come back from living in Peru for a year. As is typical of the canteen style lunch spots in Lima, the concept is a prefixed menu of a few items you eat whatever the madam in the back is making that day served fast, fresh, and affordably. Our first and second lunches here a few years ago went just as they were supposed to. We left feeling full of authentic and delicious tasting canteen style Peruvian food, and it cost us under $25 for 2 people, Inca Cola included! Today, like the first couple times, we were the only non-Peruvians in the store which is usually a great sign that we would be in for a delicious treat!. This time when I went to pay however, the lady charged us more than $25 per plate. The whole meal ended up costing us $62 for 2 plates of food and a 500ml bottle of Inca Cola. There are no prices posted anywhere which is not atypical for places like this, but I couldn’t help but think that the lady maybe inflated the prices on the spot and was trying to take advantage of us, not realizing that we had already been there several times before. Perhaps the prices have gone up a lot because of COVID, but I can’t see how it would equate to a near 300% increase. It’s a shame because I really like this place and consider it a hidden gem for Montreal. The food is delicious and it really reminds me of Peru! But today’s experience kind of just rubbed me the wrong way. Sadly, going forward, I would recommend asking what the prices are in advance and getting them to first agree on something you are comfortable paying much like how you negotiate taxi fares in Lima before hopping in the taxi!.
This place is a latino super market, they have mainly Peruvian products. If you are interested to try peruvian products go there. They also prepare peruvian plates.
Great Peruvian products for great prices. They also serve amazing food in their restaurant section!
