Stayed at Maidenwood for a girls weekend and we had the BEST time! The owners, house, area and all around experience was amazing. It felt like a home away from home. We'll definitely be back!

This business and the business owner, Jolene, VIOLATED MY RIGHTS, and did not want to let me bring a service dog with me. She said she would have to "ask her husband" if it was ok for the service animal to stay with me. Then told us the service animal would have to sleep on the floor in a kennel. She continued to ask multiple questions, including if the service animal sheds, makes noise, if the service animal will make a mess, do damage, etc. I told her she was violating my rights and she argued that her, along with any other hotels, can deny my service animal to stay with me in my room. This is not correct. This is not right. I will not be giving this business any of my money and if you care about the rights of Americans with disabilities, you will not stay here either.

More of an account of our experience than a 'review'... synopsis... TWO thumbs up! Over the years we've explored the towns and back roads along the Mississippi River, mostly as a part of different vintage car events. In early October my wife and I figured it would be fun to drive our old car over to A to Z Produce, aka 'the Pizza Farm,' near Stockholm, WI. They open to the public each Tuesday evening, March - October, offering insanely good brick-oven fired pizza. We thought it would be nice to stay in the area Tuesday night after the Pizza Farm, relax for the evening and then get up leisurely and drive back to the Twin Cities in the morning. We looked around online for a B and B. We decided on Maidenwood Lodge, and we're glad we did! Brian and Jo, a retired couple from the Twin Cities, owners of the Maidenwood Lodge, could not have been more welcoming. Just a few minutes up the hill from the cute little (really little) town of Stockholm, WI and really close to the Pizza Farm. The roads in this area are all gravel. There was a small sign out on the road pointing us in the right direct, we arrived at the long gravel drive to Maidenwood as dusk was turning to night. Brian greeted us in the driveway, along with their very sweet black lab, as we pulled up. He gave us a quick tour of the main lodge area. There were great common areas, a huge fireplace, big long dining table. It could accommodate a bunch of people, but on this Tuesday evening, we had the whole place to ourselves. Brian showed us to our room, 'The Nest'. A good sized room over the garage of the main house. We settled in and relaxed and got a great night's sleep. We talked about how quiet it was and we looked out through the big windows in our room to see a lot more stars than we're used to seeing from our suburban Minneapolis home. It wasn't until the morning, when we could really see where we were and everything around us, did we realize how beautiful the place was. A huge natural prairie with walking paths cut through it was out our back window and woods all around. We went downstairs for breakfast and met Brian's wife, Jo. They asked us if eggs benedict would be alright for breakfast... sounded good to us. Coffee, fresh fruit, juice, all the things you'd expect. Needless to say, everything was delicious as we sat at the long dining table... it could probably seat 20+, but again, it was just the two of us. We looked up at the tall, vaulted ceiling and out the windows as the sun streamed over the meadow outside. We talked with Brian and Jo as they would drop something off at the table. Really nice folks who, you cal tell, are pouring lots of time and energy into their 'retirement plan' as Jo described it. After breakfast we took a walk around some of the property, through the meadow,. Right in the middle their is a big clearing where the different paths converge, that's where people hold wedding ceremonies. We walked a couple of different paths through the woods. They were great trails to walk, early in the morning. It felt like we were hundreds of miles from anything, yet we were only about an hour from the Twin Cities. We walked back to the lodge, packed up our things and said our goodbyes. Brian and Jo were great, their Maidenwood Lodge was gorgeous. We hope to return next Spring.
