The food was not bad. The skin of the siu long bao was pretty thin which was good. But the meat was on the bland side. And so was the green onion pancake, it looks perfect but they forgot to put salt or any taste in it. But the price of the dim sum is quite reasonable. The pan fried rice cake was bland too. The salty soy milk and lamb skewers was the two items that was really good and tasty. But the waitress do not speak English, but u can order by the number of the items.
I don’t like leaving negative reviews. The waitress was quite nice and did her best I’m sure. I think this is a Chinese restaurant that might "specialize" in regional food and judging by the reviews from Chinese patrons it must be authentic Northern Chinese cuisine. However, as a foodie in the lower mainland I found the food extremely bland sadly I could add more here. In fact, we were quite surprised as each item came out of the kitchen, much less tasty than the one before, we realized that the chef didn’t use spice, chili oil, salt, garlic or pepper to flavor the food. I’ve read that some regions of world, chefs only flavor their cuisine with meat. Perhaps this is the case here. Out of a score of 1-5 1 isn't good Hot & sour soup. Needed salt to bring out the flavors: 2/5 Deep Fried eggplant: this wasn’t bad, but was quite mushy 3/5 Veggie chow mien: bland 2/5 Tofu & veggie dumpling: bland even with vinegar 2/5 Chinese Cabbage & mushrooms: bland needed garlic 1/5 The bill came to $86 with tip. We left really disappointed, but it’s our fault for not reading the reviews left by you peeps! I’m giving this place a 3/5 to be fair that perhaps it maybe help be regional cuisine. So if you are expecting huge flavor and don’t eat meat like me, give this place a pass.
First time visit. Food and service were great. Will definitely go back.Food: 4/5
Great food! Home style cooking. Food was delicious and quick to come out. Parking is limited.Food: 5/5
Ordered take out at this place for the first time. There was a language barrier but staff were very friendly. While I was waiting, the lady even gave me a fresh chinese donut to try! Had a great experience and the food is delicious. Will be visiting again
I stumbled upon Lucky Gate Chinese restaurant in Coquitlam. Their north eastern Chinese food is very authentic and the dishes are mouth watering. This place has signature fulfilling hot pot with big pieces of meat and handmade dumplings are very delicious. I would recommend this place over and over again for a taste authentic Chinese food. Its warm welcoming environment feels like eating at home. The best Chinese food taste you can find in Coquitlam and Vancouver.
Love this long term local restaurant...they make excellent noodles themselves and have very authentic tasting lamb soup - one of my favorite Xi-An classics...probably best I've had in Vancouver area
Really enjoyed the food here, a huge variety! Chinese pancake was really good. Will have to return soon to further explore the menu. Thanks!Food: 5/5
I had a negative experience with Lucky Gate. Firstly, they only accept cash or debit but this was not listed anywhere on their website nor was I advised of this when I called to place the order. My partner walked there with only a credit card and I had to rush out to meet him with a debit card before the food went cold. I ordered the deep fried spicy chicken and, to be frank, it was disgusting. They literally just deep fried the chicken—there was no coating of any kind. It was chewy, dry, and very gristly. My partner ordered the sweet and sour pork and while the portion was massive, his meat was also gristly and dry. I cannot recommend and I will not be returning, especially for the cost.
Especially hand made noodles are delicious. All other dishes are on the average and above. Floor carpet just changed/cleaned. Washingroom is ok, sometimes wet. Only accept cash or debit cards. Very limited free parking. Overall, I would recommend it.
