Story

Lakeridge Health Ajax and Pickering is a hospital in Ajax, Ontario that operates as part of the Lakeridge Health network.It was founded in 1954 as the Ajax and Pickering General Hospital with 38 patient beds. New four-storey wings were added in 1964 and 1994. A major $80 million redevelopment project was completed in 2010. Almost 25 percent of the hospital was renovated.Management of the site was transferred from Rouge Valley Health System to Lakeridge Health effective December 1, 2016.ServicesThe hospital has a capacity of 144 beds, and is raising $5 million to procure a new magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machine to support the large population growth in the area. The Emergency Department was originally designed to accommodate 20,000 visits a year, but now routinely handles 45,000. It is equipped with a helipad for medical evacuations.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to everyone at Ajax Pickering Hospital for the exceptional care I received.nnI arrived by ambulance on July 14, and from the moment the paramedics arrived, they were compassionate, professional, and incredibly kind. They made a very stressful situation much easier to get through.nnFrom the emergency department through to my admission, every staff member and nurse treated me with kindness, respect, and genuine compassion. I spent five days admitted on the 3rd floor, and the nurses / doctors and surgeons there went above and beyond to care for me. Their support, encouragement, and dedication made a difficult time much more manageable, and I truly believe they played a huge role in helping me recover.nnThank you to the entire team at Ajax Pickering Hospital for your outstanding care and for everything you do every day. I will always be grateful for the kindness and professionalism you showed me during my stay.
I know this hospital has its share of negative reviews, but I wanted to share my experience because it was genuinely positive.nnFrom the moment I arrived, everyone I interacted with was hardworking, professional, and communicated clearly. Even though the emergency department was busy, the staff stayed organized and kept me informed throughout my visit.nnHealthcare workers have incredibly demanding jobs, and the team I met showed compassion, teamwork, and dedication. I'm grateful for the care I received.
Horrible staff. You could be dying in the waiting room and they’d still leave you there before finally calling you in. The nurses kept telling me I’d “be fine” and to just wait. Save your time and go to a hospital in Scarborough instead. While I was sitting there bleeding in the waiting room, staff were watching YouTube videos instead of helping patients. I understand hospitals can be short staffed but for them to be so disrespectful and just be watching videos while we’re asking how long until the next person goes in is absolutely ridiculous.
Lakeridge Ajax is an absolute nightmare. I went there at 630 am and there was maybe 6 people in emergency. Triage was quick and painless, and was in an assessment room within 90 minutes. Then I sat in that room for 4 hours. No Doctor and no expected amount of a wait. I wasn't allowed to go get food or water, i explained that i now had a pounding headache. No one offered anything for my head. I had to just leave so i could come home and have a couple of Tylenols. The place is absolutely filthy and in need of general cosmetics.nI was genuinely worried about catching something from all the lingering uncleaned viruses and such

The entire team made us feel safe, supported, and cared for during a very important moment.nnA special thank you to all the nursing staff, especially Sarah and Sharon, for their compassion, professionalism, and calm reassurance — they went above and beyond to make us feel confident and at ease.nnDr. Iqbal, the anesthetic doctor, administered our epidural flawlessly — completely painless and extremely professional.nnWhile our L&D experience was outstanding, we suggest the Postpartum department improve their visitor policy and staff interactions with visitors, ensuring everyone is treated calmly and positively.nnOverall, we are deeply grateful to all staff for making this experience so special. Truly exceptional care!
