We recently had our child's tonsils removed here and had such a positive experience. The entire pediatric team was incredibly caring, attentive, and checked in on her often to make sure they were comfortable. Every staff member we encountered was friendly, supportive, and quick to help whenever needed. The rooms were also very clean and well maintained. They also made the experience less scary and more fun for child and they loved the wagon ride to the OR, which was such a thoughtful touch. We’re very grateful for the wonderful care our child received. The nurses were incredibly kind. Thank you to the whole team!
Today at 11:15 AM I had an appointment to take my mother for a CT scan with IV. My mom has dementia and she can be very challenging for appointment appointments.nI contacted diagnostic imaging in the morning advising we were coming, gave our name. The time of the appointment asked if they could kindly get us in and out.nOften I try to go to appointments early and get in and out as quick as I can. We arrived at 10:15. Staff called my mom in at 10:20. I went in to get her settled.. She was done by 10:53.nI’d like to thank the amazingnReceptionist: Linda LalondenAnd technician: Gowri.nStop certainly went above and beyond and thank you kindly for making our experience much better than past ones as my mom can be very challenging.nOshawa HOSPITAL is the best. And kudos to those staff, Linda and Gowri. They certainly know how to deal with people.
I had a very drastic fall and came here with a fractured leg and foot whole body was shook up left side hurt hurting hip hurting and head hurting. I had been lying outdoors on the ground for at least 45 minutes before I was brought in. The ambulance team was incredible extremely patient and understanding. The staff was generally pretty good but the disgusting experience I had was from the head nurse Ashley. I was told that I had to leave the hospital once my cast was put on because I needed the hospital bed. I was on painkillers due to pain. I had told the staff that my husband was going to come straight for me once he was done work and he was already on route as he works from downtown. There was no empathy shown and they said they were gonna wheel me into the waiting room. I told them that I could not even sit upright due to the pain levels. I told them I was borderline diabetic and I was starved. This is the point where I asked to speak with a head nurse because I thought she would offer some compassion. I said to her if I sit up on that chair and you will see me likely fall. The nurse became very irritable and did not even let me finish my sentence as I was trying to tell her that I was not in a position to get up. She walked off saying don’t you dare threaten me. I looked around and I could not understand why she was yelling at me rather than offering me compassion or offering me a way to get some orange juice because I’m borderline diabetic and I was given no food for the last seven hours? Deep down I just feel one thing racism! This is a hospital based in Oshawa what do I expect? I hope people like Ashley can learn that in the position of being a discharge nurse one of the key things needed is compassion. Her behaviour was so disgusting of not even wanting to have a discussion with me. I would expect more compassion from a four-year-old having a tantrum in a play yard. Hospital in place where you are taken care of. Please drive an extra hour and go to a decent hospital and not go to lakeridge just because it’s close by. No one deserves to have this kind of treatment. I hope Ashley has a good night after knowing how she impacted me today!
I was admitted to the Emergency Department on March 3, 2026, after abnormal blood work results. My experience in the ER was very positive. The nurses—particularly the Filipino nurses—and the emergency doctors were excellent: professional, attentive, and compassionate. I also underwent an ERCP procedure, and the care I received during that time was very good.nnUnfortunately, my experience changed when I was transferred to the GI unit. I had asked for a private or semi-private room since my work benefits cover it, but the GI unit only had ward rooms available. The ward setup 3 beds offered no privacy, with nurses, patient & guests constantly passing through the area where my bedside was placed to go to the other patient bedside Curtains in this unit are NOT properly installed, resulting privacy issues and concerns nnThe biggest issue was a fellow patient who was extremely loud and inconsiderate. He constantly used his phone on speaker and went in and out of the room as if he were in a hotel, despite other patients—including myself and another woman—being on IVs and needing rest to recover. The other patient had already complained about him before I arrived, yet the nurses did not take action or remind him to be mindful and be quiet for the sake of others.nnBecause of the constant disturbance and lack of rest, my blood pressure spiked to 201/106, which I had never experienced even while taking BP medication. I developed skin rashes from the stress, and the other patient in the room became so anxious she began vomiting.nnI became genuinely scared that my blood pressure could lead to something serious if I stayed in that unit another night, I asked to be moved to different room but our complaints were not being taken seriously and the disruptive behavior continued, with 2 attempts reaching to the nurses and still no actions, I ultimately took my chances to forced myself to sign a waiver to discharge myself earlier than recommended because I was afraid the stress might cause my condition to worsen overnight if I stayed one more nite in that room. Since, it wasn’t the advice of the Dr for the discharged, I lost the access for all the antibiotics and medicines I should be taking home and waiting for Monday to see my Family doctor and praying that all the meds I got before discharge Fr the IV’s would be enough for recovery.nnThe emergency department staff were outstanding, but the GI ward environment and lack of response to patient concerns made the situation unsafe and extremely stressful. This hospital should have policy in place to ensure nurses do not tolerate this type of behavior specially when multiple complaints have been raisednnI hope the hospital reviews how disruptive patients are managed in shared wards so that other patients who need rest and healing are protected.
