About

KDocs: Uniting learners through social justice, global citizenship, and creative solution-building

Story

KDocs is KPU’s very own Documentary Film Festival, led by learners and educators from all of KPU’s communities. KDocs contributes to KPU’s engagement of various and varied communities, through documentary screenings and community dialogue, in critical thinking and understanding about ourselves, our communities, and our world.

As a premier event in Metro Vancouver, KDocs celebrates the power of documentary film. Working in partnership with the Vancouver International Film Centre + Vancity Theatre, each KDocs events showcase award-winning documentary films, keynote speakers, filmmakers, panelists, exhibitors, and community members. Participants will engage in lively discussion, debate, and dialogue as they investigate today’s most pressing global issues.

Building strong partnerships in and across KPU’s many communities was (and still is) a foundational goal of KDocs—that is, to be a documentary film festival that is not just faculty-driven with narrow goals, but also student-, staff-, alumni-, and community-driven, with a global-facing, social justice education mission rooted in student engagement. We are extremely proud of the many connections and collaborations KDocs has initiated, built, and deepened, on campus and off. We look forward to further engaging with and on behalf of Kwantlen’s many learners.

Mission

To engage KPU’s various and varied communities, through documentary screenings and community dialogue, in critical thinking and understanding about ourselves, our communities, and our world.

Studied here for credit transfer. Really nice campus and many options for courses. Courses are quite easy to pass and study environment is positive. Would consider coming back if ever want to take more courses.

I studied here for a year and a half, over a decade ago, and I loved it! I was just in the wrong program(the Job Prep program within the APPD(Access Program for People with Disabilities)! That program sucks! The main cafeteria is OK; and the bookstore is amazing! Love all the KPU apparel! Overall, the Professors, and the students, are really nice and understanding! Great services for students(including those put on by the student association(KSA)! I'm planning to attend this place, again in the near future! I love this school! So proud to be an Eagle!

Registration puts students on a wild goose chase. Eg. Instructed to speak with Program Coordinator. Program Coordinator instructs student to contact registration. Academic advisors give poor advice leading to complications. Students are waitlisted despite it being a required course for their program. Therefore, they need to try to take the required courses at another academic institution. However, they need to seek permission even after ensuring it's transferable. Basically, students are left stranded to fend for themselves. It's honestly ridiculous, students are treated like garbage. I strongly suggest students to invest in their future someplace else if they care about their academic future and peace of mind.

Smaller classes sizes and a variety of courses makes Kwantlen an excellent option. I gave it three stars for a couple of reasons. It is mainly a commuter school. Even at the "Main" campus it doesn't feel much like a university. The school is growing and changing but it just doesn't have that culture of a larger university. Having the variety of campuses is nice but can also be a pain when a course is only offer at one campus. The second issue I found at Kwantlen is there are a lot of kids that don't want to be there. They are attending because it was easy to get into and their parents want them to attend university.
