Kitty Coleman Provincial Park, also known as Kitty Coleman Beach Provincial Park, is a provincial park in British Columbia, Canada. It is located on Vancouver Island, in the Courtney/Comox area, south of the mouth of the Oyster River just northeast of Courtenay. Unlike most provincial parks, it is a Class 'C' provincial park, meaning it is run by a local community board., and is usually filled with local campers. The beach is directly across from the sites and provides a beautiful view of Powell River and the surrounding beaches across the water. There are only pit toilets available, and no hook-up or sani-station for motorhomes. It is approximately 0.1 km2 in area.HistoryThe park was established on November 14, 1944 and was named after Kitty Coleman, a local First Nation member who left her tribe early to marry a white man.Flora and faunaThere are very tall Douglas Fir trees in the southern area. Wild onions also grow in the park.
"DO NOT TAKE ALDERGROVE RD TO ACCESS SITE. We are a first come first serve only. Most sites are on the ocean. Office opens at 8:30 am and caretakers know what sites are coming up so call or line up at this time. Can hold sites over the phone for the same day of arrival. Not on the Government Website. There are no services. Rocky beach. Can house any size unit. There is potable water and pit toilets. No WIFI. Ten day limit. Pets on leash at all times. Camping is $20.00. Boat ramp is $10.00 daily or $50.00 annually. The boat ramp is difficult depending on tides. Boats larger than 18 feet can be difficult to launch.There is also a high tide ramp in the park.
