This is a favorite hiking trail for our family. It is not super long, but it is steep and there is a beautiful beach at the bottom. The old structures, various offshoots of trails, and varied landscape keep us coming back for more. We have had some nice photos here and enjoy the area. It is nice year-round but fall is particularly pretty due to many deciduous trees. You will want a "Discovery Pass" for this and most other trails in the area. The passes are available online, or while renewing your (Washington State) vehicle license tags. There is a small fee for one year of unlimited visits and you can use it on either of two vehicles identified on the pass. You can/will be cited if you or your vehicle are without the pass in the parking area during enforcement visits. We have noticed that it is a bad idea to assume the enforcement will not be working on Holidays. They do!

Totally worth a trip. Be sure to have good boots though. The trails are extremely wet during the rainy months. Beautiful views of the Olympics.

Great little hike for kids. Spent 3 hours there and took our time. I took my 6 children on this hike age ranges were 19 to 6 yo. BEAUTIFUL diverse trail with lush woods, marshland, creek, bridges, waterfront with shells, stumphouse to climb in, and great for pictures. There are some areas on the path that dropped off on one side and were narrow. We also did this walk right after the rain so the leaves and roots were a little slick going down to the beach. Also the map that is at the beginning says you are here but you are not there, you are at the trailhead lol
The marshy area had bridges for the most part but the path to the stump house is thick clay like mud, my 6 yo needed mud flaps ha ha. Bring boots or tennis shoes you can clean or throw out. We took the service road back up and it is mostly a straight climb but my 6 yo made it most off the way. I would recommend a picnic on the beach before the service road back if you have young ones so they can regroup. Other than that it was an amazing place!

A do-able hike for smaller human tag-alongs though a good trek back up, be warned! Plenty of clams, oysters, and sea asparagus on the beach if you have your shellfish & seaweed license. Also plenty of evergreen Huckleberry to forage for, in August/September making for nice berry picking breaks to catch your breath as you climb. Great views across the water. May have to check out the beach rental at the bottom..
