This was really good. I had the immune booster ramen chicken broth with loads of garlic and ginger It was very rich and flavourful without leaving me feeling too full like a pork broth would. Since it’s new to the neighbourhood and there have been a lot of people anticipating its opening, it was quite busy. We waited around 20-30min to get a table for 2 at about 7pm They were have trouble checking everyone in at the door. Once seated service was very quick.
I love this place, it’s a chain. And for North Vancouver. It’s off the rails. I had my first Ramen brisket. It was delicious if you read any of my reviews, I’ve always said Ramen as its own food group. It’s slowly taking over North Vancouver. With a couple of restaurants. This one should do well. There always seems to be a lineup. So if you’re looking for Ramen, and you’re looking for something reliable and delicious . This place is it..
It took 2 visits to be able to justify a 5 star review. Ramen is delicious! Service is a little tricky because they seemed short staffed or in training. But the ramen is worth it. Al dente noodles, rich broth, and ridiculously generous portion of beef. During my 1st visit, they gave me spicy chicken karage when I ordered the original. It took a while for me to track someone down to point out the error. They kept questioning me about the order when I thought it was pretty clear. Anyway, they took the appy away and told me that they would make me another. My ramen then arrived minutes later and I finished my lunch before any replacement appy was ready. I paid for the ramen and left. During the 2nd visit, I placed the exact same order- 3pc chicken karage and beef ramen. Everything went normally this time. I probably won't get the karage again since it was just ok. But I'll be back for the ramen.
Highly recommend getting the thick noodles especially if you enjoy your noodles al dente. The pork miso broth has a smoky/pepper taste plus something herbal that I can’t quite place at the beginning. I didn’t start tasting the pork flavour of the broth until in 2/3 of the way done. Portion is comparable to most other ramen chains think Santoka/Jinya; order an appetizer if you’re hungry. Chicken karage is crispy on the outside and very tender on the inside. I think I enjoyed it better than the ramen itself. Service can be hit or miss. I don’t think any of the staff talked to me aside from when I was ordering. Had to flag someone down to get a seat restaurant was half full, not peak hour, getting water refilled, and for the bill at the end. Wasn’t acknowledged when entering or leaving the restaurant like everyone else, or checked on during the meal; maybe just not my day.
Finally, a great ramen place on the North Shore! The ramens were delicious, staff super friendly. We tried the spicy garlic veggie ramen, spicy garlic pork ramen, veg gyoza and takoyaki. Very good quality, authentic and tasty. Highly recommended!
TLDR: Wait for a couple months until they've ironed out the kinks. Avoid if you're looking for traditional ramen, but okay as a fusion restaurant. Might survive in NVan, but would probably close if there was competition. Pros: - incredible manager - huge quantity of noodles - lots of variety chicken, beef, pork, veg, negative noodles - efficient and responsible if errors are made with your order Cons: - small protein meat and tofu ~1/8" thick - skimpy toppings - ratio of noodles/broth to toppings not balanced - disorganized with orders but only 2nd day being open The long stuff: My brother and I have been excited for MONTHS to try out this ramen restaurant on the North Shore! We have gone to many over town Danbo, Marutama... , but were excited to see if we could really get a good place for ramen close to home. We arrived around 5pm and ordered the Original Pork Ramen thick noodles, Pork Gyoza and Spicy Veg with Shirataki Noodles. The gyoza arrived fairly quickly and was deep fried. Incredible flavour, texture and good spicy mayo sauce except the center was cold. They handled it very well when we mentioned it to them and replaced it fairly quickly. A bit inconsistent with consistency as the mayo in the first order had nice streaks while the replacement had mayo poured over it and was dripping. This is day 2 though so a few kinks to iron out. When our ramen arrived, the veggie ramen was incorrect so they had to remake it. Waitress noticed it before it got to the table so that was nice and they were apologetic about it. It arrived maybe 10 minutes later. First tastes...WOW white pepper! The pork shoyu which wasn't marketed as spicy was a bit spicy and strangely tasted like seafood. If you have a seafood allergy, might want to double check with them. Cha-shu was grilled and while it had nice colour, was a bit on the dry side. Size was quite thin at maybe 1/8" thick. Soup was creamy, but didn't have the thick richness of other broths I've had at more established ramen restaurants I learned later that their broth is made off site. It came with a full ramen egg which was overcooked by traditional standards. Yolk was fully set on the parameter, but had some of the soft glossy texture. More of a medium-firm egg whereas other places have creamy, yolky center. As for the noodles, they didn't have the chewy, al dente snap to them, but were okay. Now...the spicy veggie ramen. I was pleasantly surprised to find they had shirataki noodles on the menu so I decided to try it. Though I was a bit concerned at how they'd taste with ramen, they were delicious and they did not skim at all! Plenty of noodles to last for leftovers. As for toppings, a bit disappointing. It came with 1 piece of fried bean curd instead of cha shu, but the bean curd was 2"x3" and again, about 1/8" thick so think of 3 stacked business cards. Very tasty it was sweetened bean curd, but not enough. With regard to the soup, if I thought the original pork had too much white pepper, this one was a BOMBSHELL. Honestly had no idea that white pepper even went into ramen broth before now... After all this, I wasn't sure if this was an off kitchen day so I asked the manager Jules. Let me first start off by saying that this was the best experience I've had talking to someone in charge. He was very responsive and open to the questions I had. My questions to the manager: - So much white pepper is normal? Seafood flavour in pork broth? --> soup is made off site and brought in so yes this is probably the baseline - thin meat/protein? --> he didn't have much to say, but this is probably standard Overall: 3/5 - Presentation: 4/5 - Soup: 3/5 - Chashu/protein: 2/5 - Noodles: 3/5 - Toppings: 2.5/5 So I wish I could say I loved it and will definitely go back, but I will have to wait several months and see some incredible reviews to try it again. It also wasn't solely my table that had trouble, the diners next to us also had cold food and were given the wrong order so yes, give it some time before trying. Vegetarian options: Lots of noodles and only a tiny piece of tofu. Will probably have to add-on several pieces of extra tofu if hungry Kid-friendliness: many families inside Dietary restrictions: Vegetarian, low carb shirataki, beef, chicken, pork
With many ramen businesses closing down in the Lonsdale area, I thought there'd be no more ramen to have at my convenience but Kinton has shed a new light of hope and it does live up to its reviews. I had the pork miso and it was one of the most genuine ramen I had so far in life. The quality of soup was excellent, noodle's texture was al dente, and the portion was the right size for its price. I'll definitely be coming back to fulfill my ramen crave!
This Ramen is so-so. It wasn’t great and it wasn’t bad. 3.5/5 Biggest issue was that Cha-shu was not boiled long enough and fat doesn’t melt when you eat. My son and daughter didn’t finish them. Gyoza was kind of surprise. I was expecting classic Gyoza sauce soy sauce, vinegar, sesame oil but mayo based sauce. Also, it was deep fried. It works at Cactus club cafe but not with Ramen. Also, they double check our order but it was wrong… Presentation: 4/5 Soup: 3/5 Noodle: 3/5 Cha-shu: 1/5 Gyoza: 2/5
This place was alright. Has a good vibe. Gets busy during peak hours. Had the chicken original with karaage. Karaage was crispy. The chicken ramen on the other hand was a bit bland and watery. Couldn't taste too much of the flavour. I was there before closing. Vegetarian options: It's good to see they have quite a bit of vegetarian options.
You don't realize North Van has missed a spot like this until you've tried out Kinton Ramen. Brand new spot on central lonsdale. Very nice, modern and cool looking spot. Staff here were quick, attentive and friendly. Dinner for 2 was less than 40 bucks, including a tip. We both ordered pork ramen. There are beef, chicken and even vegetable options available. There is a simple appetizer menu of things like edamame, gyoza and even deep fried octopus balls. They serve Sapporo here and have a couple desert options. The menu looks great. We will definitely be back. I liken the food similar to some of the well known ramen spots downtown. Waited a long time for this place to open. Low key might be the best casual dinner spot on central/upper lonsdale. Don't hesitate to check these guys out, they're awesome. We will definitely be back! Vegetarian options: There are plenty of vegetarian options. They look great. Kid-friendliness: The restaurant is family friendly. Parking: Plenty of ample parking on the streets in the surrounding area. Wheelchair accessibility: The entire restaurant is on the ground level and easily accessible. Dietary restrictions: The staff will do their best to accommodate your needs, but the menus have plenty of dietary warnings on them.
