Beautiful restaurant, friendly service, delicious food. But. Super. Expensive. The pork and shrimp dumpling - a classic dim sum dish - cost $9.80, which is ~$3 more than that charged at other similar dim sum places. I get it. Food has become more expensive. But how did we get here? So despite the delicious, creative dishes, I was fixated on price.
Spacious, casual dining. Dim sum was great, quality ingredients, fresh. Congee steamed shrimp dumpling w black truffle chicken feet fried glutinous rice dumplings w shrimp + mince pork egg tarts and piggy custard buns pan fried radish cake, could be crispier
Food was made to order pretty quick. Tasted pretty good. Bit on the pricier side. Will consider coming again to try other foods. They have a unique style of food and lots of selection to choose from.
I would not come back as there are better places for dimsum at a better price with MUCH better service. We did not get a choice of tea as you would at a typical dimsum restaurant. We asked for iced coffees the moment we sat down and after a long wait, we asked another server passing by about our coffees. She immediately replied “it’s coming” and continued with her task, it felt like she had no regard for our request. It took another while until the coffees came. Plates were not provided to us while nearby tables had plates and we had to ask for them only to receive them after another long wait. When I asked for hot sauce the server told us it was not her job and to ask the waitress. At this point I just gave up on continuing to flag down someone to attend to our very reasonable needs. The food was decent, but the portion of the spareribs was smaller than expected. During the entire meal, our server did not check in on us and pick up our empty plates.
We had a great lunch here after boxing day. The restaurant was very busy, and quite understaffed. The servers were running from table to table to keep up. Our food was delicious but a couple of our items didn’t get ordered. Highly recommend their chili oil, it’s spicy and delicious on everything.
We had fish soup, dim sum, kids meal, burger and sago pudding. The food was so heavenly delicious! And their portions were quite huge! It was a great experience there with our 10 year old daughter during our stay in BC. We miss Joy Cafe in Toronto.
Joy Cafe has a decent offering of food, friendly staff, and a great atmosphere. Unfortunately, the dishes are hit or miss. The Taiwanese popcorn chicken was great but the other dishes were nothing special. We didn’t try their dimsum dishes but they looked like they might be better. At the end of the day, Joy Cafe was like your average HK cafe in terms of food but with prices higher than you would expect for the same dishes.
I ordered the tomato, beef and egg on rice and there were small pieces of egg shell in my egg. Otherwise food presentation and the restaurant decor is nice. There weren’t many waitresses for how big the restaurant was so it was hard to get their attention when we wanted to order or get the bill.
Convenient location with underground parking. Dimsum lunch is tasty. Only 1 page of choices but they have some specialty dimsum items that no other places have. Worth coming to give it a try, especially when they bribe you with a yummy dessert for a 5-star rating!
Visited this place majorly for the ovaltine toast which was pretty good and decent level in Richmond. The lobster shui mai is also delicious. The lack of one star is due to pricing and milk tea quality is just average.Recommended dishesDim Sum
