Went to Kim's across the street and while I waited, came over here to try out their mini taiyaki and since I was here, the walnut cake. Love that these are super easy to snack on. All bite sized and delicious. The taiyaki has a custard filling, which I loved. I'm not the biggest fan of the walnut cake but it was my partner's favorite he tried everything from Kim's cart as well. I mean, it's good, just that I like the sweeter things, hence the custard mini Taiyaki were great! I bought way too much so I heated them up in the toaster oven the next day and they were amazing! Nice and crispy on the outside and just oh so yummy. That just means I can get a lot more on my next trip. I had parked in the plaza across the street, but if you're only coming to HoHo, parking in the HMart lot will be closer
Such a lovely treat! 7 pieces for $5 or 15 pieces for $10. They are the size of a whole walnut shelled, but this nut is filled with red bean and walnut pieces cooked inside a lovely batter. There use to be a whole half a walnut in each pieces per covid, but you got to cut cost somewhere while wanting to keep prices the same. You can find them on your way in or out of H-Mart on the North Road entrance in a cute cart. They also sell mini taiyaki stuffed with custard 10 pieces for $5. It's the same batter used for the walnut cakes, but wish it was cooked a little longer for a bit of crunch as it gets quite quickly with the oozing custard inside. Wither way, a delightful treat that I get to enjoy with my afternoon tea. Cash only!
On the way leaving H-mart, I had to pull over for the Taiyaki. They only have the custard flavour for mini taiyaki but it’s already good enough. The food truck is kind cute too. My bf asked if I bite off the heads or the tails of the fish first. I told him the tails because the heads have more filling. I saved the best for last. Lol
It's a 45min. drive for me to get there but I will do it just to get the Walnut Cake & Custard Taiyaki. Definitely eat it while it's hot! I guess say hi to some friends in the area while there
Always delighted to find this truck open when we visit H Mart. Freshly made to order mini taiyaki with custard filling and the walnut cake are worth the wait.
Get the Custard taiyaki! Or if you prefer redbean get the walnut. Recommendation to owner: create a $10 or $9.50 menu option that contains both $5 options.
I stopped by here back in late January for hot snacks. I even went to TD bank to withdraw cash just to make the purchase. Taiyaki and Hodugwaja were fresh and delicious. I asked the owner if there were any red bean filled Bungeoppang he said no. Cream filled Taiyaki =Bungeoppang was not bad, but red bean ones would be the best ever! All because I grew up eating red bean filled Bungeoppang in market places in Korea. I took leftover bags home without knowing the snacks would break. I think the batter was little watery so this was the reason for 4 stars. Cream filled Taiyaki reminded me of Delimanjoo from subway station in Korea. Hodugwaja was pretty good.
Came on a Thursday for some of their walnut cakes and taiyakis. Everytime I'm in the area and they are open I have to get them as a snack. I got the walnut cakes which have walnuts and red bean in them and the taiyakis which have custard in them. What I like about their taiyakis is that they are never too sweet. The person who runs the stall also always gives extra which is so nice. Their price is always very reasonable for the amount you get. Keep in mind, you have to eat these fresh and don't leave them for a couple hours or even minutes.
special dessert, cute and love it
The walnut cake and mini taiyakis are so cute and tasty. The custard filling in the taiyaki was a bit sweeter than I prefer but still yummy. The delicious walnut cake is filled with red bean paste and chopped walnuts. Be cautious when you bite into the taiyaki as the custard filling could be really hot. I hope they would offer more filling choices in these delicious snacks/desserts in the future.
