In the last year I have had 2 experiences in High River ER The first was when I broke my ankle in December, that instance the staff was extremely professional in explaining what they were doing g to stabilize my ankle before sending me to Calgary for surgery. The second was in June when I experienced an extreme asthma attack and needed to attend the ER. Once again the staff was professional and willing to explain my treatment and what was being done to enable me to return home. On a side note the food served at meals was much better than what I have been served during previous stays at other hospitals. It is as if the staff actually took pride in their work
Had to go hear for a day procedure and was more than satisfied.nThe staff was great. Very friendly and professional. Service was on time and fast. Best experience that I can remember having at a hospital. Even though it is a bit out of my way as I live a hour away, It is worth the travel to bypass the overcrowded chaos that I have experienced in Calgary hospitals in the past.
Now I’ve been going to this hospital for 31 years, so here’s a quick breakdown:nnSmaller emergency room than some modern hospitals, but for a small town it’s quite impressive. Doctors are kind, even if sometimes rushed due to staffing.nnThe labs are also smaller then some, but the staff are amazing and make the wait forth it. Smaller waiting area with limited seats on a busy day.nnThe main downside of this hospital is the parking situation. For a hospital of this size, they have a TINY parking lot for maybe 50 cars. If your showing up after 9am, you might have to park down the street and walk, which might effect people with mobility issues.
In almost all respects a great hospital, excellent staff and excellent care. One small suggestion. In day surgery on the second floor patients are given a snack after some procedures. In our case the interviewing nurse was told my wife was lactose intolerant and her snack that was delivered all had lactose with the exception of liquids. Perhaps this should be looked at.
High River hospital is an embarrassment to the community. The ER staff have ALWAYS been extremely unhelpful and unkind. After numerous visits there with my mother before she died, I told my daughter and son-in-law not to take my little grandson there with suspected appendicitis. They didn’t take my advice. Needless to say they’re now on their way to Children’s Hospital in Calgary. The ‘physician’ in the High River ER was ignorant and dismissive. Stay away from this place. Truly!
