Story

Heartwood is a full service restaurant located on Quinpool Road in Halifax. We are Halifax's only vegetarian restaurant. We offer a variety of choices that are both delicious and nutritious. During the summer season, you can also find us at 1751 Lower Water Street Kiosk #4 on the Halifax Waterfront.

All Heartwood's food is prepared in house, fresh each day. Practicing cooking with a conscious, we try to source the best ingredients possible right down to our spices.

We emphasize Organic Food and get excited about Local & Organic Food. We do it for the health of our customers and the care for our environment. We work with the seasons, weather, and availability of ingredients.
Let us offer you a whole and healthy meal. Choose from one of our Heartwood bowls, pizzas, sandwiches, burrito, or one of our appetizers. Or, stop in for a coffee and a Heartwood made dessert.

Great place!  Food was very good. Had the daily special of tomato soup and burrito, umm!  Liked the atmosphere.  Great server too! Will be back!

I frequent Heartwood about once a month, usually for takeout. Over the past 4 years I’ve had nothing but exceptional service from them, both the food, and staff are superb. I had the pleasure of eating on their patio this summer as well, it was gorgeous and felt like we were still part of the restaurant which was really nice. 

Even my one negative experience was remedied so quickly and kindly, over the summer I tried to order online through Gatahub and there was a glitch, and i ended up having to wait for an extended period of time. 

My favourite dishes are the taco salad, traditional heartwood bowl, and the burrito! But having tried most of the menu so far there’s nothing I haven’t loved! The desserts are a great treat too!

I love eating here. I'm vegan, but I still often find myself without enough veggies in my diet and Heartwood is definitely the place to go when you need your greens.

My favorite is their coconut curry Heartwood bowl and the mixed vegetables. All their dressings and sauces are delicious. 

I can also highly recommend their house wine, which is organic and from Portugal. I only tried the white and it was divine.. I ended up going to NSLC to buy some for my personal use at home.

This place has solved my vegan pizza cravings. I'm always on the lookout for a good vegan pizza. Nothing fancy. I'm a Halifax kid and I miss the local pizza joints. Eating vegan makes it a hard shoe to fill. Heartwood seems to have hit the mark though. Good pizzas, worth coming in again for.

I've been twice now, and the food and service were exceptional both times. A great place to go to try out delicious food that happens to be vegan, with plenty of vegetarian options as well. 

They also allow you to bring your own wine, and have a $10 corking fee. I haven't had a chance to take advantage of this myself yet, but I plan to because it has such a nice atmosphere.
