Haidilao Hot Pot Toronto Downtown

Haidilao is my favorite hot pot restaurant. After trying so many different hot pot places, we always end up coming back here and don’t even consider going anywhere else.nnAlthough it’s a bit pricey, the quality of the ingredients and the flavors are outstanding. Their soup bases are especially amazing—my favorites are the Tom Yum and Mushroom broths.nnHot pot is a great way to gather with friends. You can enjoy delicious food while chatting at the same time. The atmosphere is always lively, and the service is excellent, making every visit a wonderful experience.

My friends and I celebrated our birthdays at Haidilao Hot Pot Downtown Toronto on Sunday, September 6, 2026. We had made a reservation in advance for 6 people at 2:30 PM, with our dining time until 4:30 PM.nFirst, I want to give credit where it is due: the food was good and we enjoyed our meal. I have no complaints about the food itself. Unfortunately, our seating arrangement made what was supposed to be a special birthday celebration uncomfortable.nDespite having a reservation for six people, we were seated in a very tight space that appeared better suited for around four people, with two additional chairs added to accommodate our group. Once all six of us were seated and the hotpot, dishes, drinks, plates, and food were on the table, it felt cramped.nWe noticed a larger table nearby that could have accommodated our group more comfortably. When we asked about it, we were told that it was reserved for a party of 8. I completely respected that and initially assumed their reservation was coming soon.nHowever, the table remained vacant for essentially our entire two-hour reservation. The party of 8 arrived around 4:30 PM—the same time our dining period was ending and we were leaving. This was the most disappointing part of the experience. Had their reservation been at 4:30 PM, I wish our group could have used the larger table from 2:30–4:30 PM and then vacated it for them.nWhat also surprised me is that I have been to this same Haidilao location before, in February 2024 please see the last photo attached, with a group of six friends. On that visit, six of us were accommodated comfortably at a larger table. I have photos from that previous visit showing the difference in space, so I knew this location was capable of accommodating a group of six more comfortably.nOur check this time was $347.46 before tip. A 15% gratuity of $52.12 brought our total to $399.58. The gratuity itself is not my complaint—it was explained to me when I made the reservation by phone, and I agreed to it. I mention the amount because after making a reservation in advance and spending almost $400 for our birthday celebration, I think it was reasonable to expect comfortable seating for the six people included in the reservation.nI understand that restaurants need to protect tables for upcoming reservations, particularly larger parties. However, I think there could have been better planning or flexibility when the larger table was going to remain unused until our own two-hour reservation was finished.nThe food was good, and this review is not meant to criticize the kitchen. My disappointment is specifically with the seating and reservation management. I hope management considers this feedback so that when a reservation is accepted for six guests, the group is provided with a table and space that can comfortably accommodate all six people.nI would have been much happier leaving a higher rating because we enjoyed the food, but unfortunately, the cramped seating affected our birthday experience.nnCompare 2 events from our attached photos and videos - September 2026 and February 2024

Great food options and good veg/chicken only options as well. Must try the Sichuan peppercorn spicy soup base! Good sauce options to make your own sauce.nGreat service by the servers and the hosts, do not forget to add yourself in the queue and dart accordingly. This place is usually busy for dinner, I’m sure a lot of them must be coming back to enjoy the amazing food here! Shoutout to Wayne, amazing server/host very friendly and knowledgeable.nnWhile you wait for the table to be ready, enjoy the snacks, tea and cherry tomatoes from the lobby. After the meal, don’t forget to ask for free ice-cream.

This was our first time trying Haidilao Hot Pot with a toddler, and it was such a fun and memorable experience.nnThe food was fresh, with a great variety of meats, and sides, and we loved being able to customize our own sauces at the sauce station. The option to choose multiple soup broths in one pot made it perfect for everyone at the table.nnWhat really stood out was the service. The staff were incredibly attentive, and the live noodle-stretching performance added such a fun touch—our toddler absolutely loved it.nThe restaurant is also very family-friendly, with high chairs that fit right at the table and thoughtful little details for kids.nnEven the bathrooms were spotless and well-equipped with extra toiletries, mouth wash, and kids sink.nnThe best part, you can choose up to four different broth in a metal devider.nnYou can really tell they care about the overall customer experience. Highly recommend, especially for families or anyone looking for a fun dining experience!

Absolutely outstanding experience! From the moment we walked in, the service was above and beyond—attentive, welcoming, and genuinely kind. The hot pot itself was incredible: fresh ingredients, rich and flavorful broths, and so many great options to customize exactly what you want. Everything was clean, well-organized, and thoughtfully presented.nnYou can tell they truly care about both the food and the customer experience. This was one of those meals you keep thinking about afterward. I honestly can’t say enough good things—highly recommend and will definitely be back!
