I don’t usually review especially to say something negative but this time I have to do it because the sauna and steam room have been broken for over a week and nothing is being done. I had surgery on my foot and after workout I like to stretch it out on the sauna but there is always problems with their sauna or steam room. The staff is pretty nice but the place is not well kept,
Depending on what time you go to this location, it can be very pleasant . Avoid going between 6-8pm at all costs. If a machine breaks down, it takes them quite a while to to fix. The steam room for example, it has been not working properly for quite a while now. The staff at the front desk are very nice. The gym itself can feel claustrophobic at first because of the low ceilings, but you will get used to it. Overall, its one of the better goodlife clubs around downtown area
It's a great location, nice staff, good equipment and 3 floors. 4 stars and not 5 because the steam sauna is barely if ever working, and despite flagging this issue on multiple occasion by myself and others, it's not resolved. This problem sustained for more than 2 weeks now. When is maintenance done? Otherwise, pleasant experience overall.
The nicer goodlife in the Bloor/Yorkville area, hidden on the 5th floor of a condo building. Hard to find but great once you've found it.
A lot of space and good quality machines, but I have no clue why they have so many treadmills which I have barely seen any people use in my one month at this gym and only THREE squat racks. The machines are kept all over the place and not organized in any cohesive manner. Decent place to workout but need to change this because most people come to this gym to lift weights.
Jasmine was so helpful and nice when answering my questions about putting my account on hold. Such a sweet girl with a beautiful smile
You need to buss at the door. Great gym. Good downtown Toronto location. Subway.
The gym is kept clean and has a variety of equipment and programs. The staff is friendly and courteous. The hours could be extended on Sat and Sundays but besides that its a solid gym
Same experience as many people. I was forced into a personal training session which was just an uncomfortable high pressure sales opportunity, not unlike when you buy a car and they try to force you into an overpriced long-term maintenance package. This was years ago but the foul taste lingers. Go to a YMCA instead, much more inclusive and friendly. To be clear, I played varsity rugby and I am not intimidated by gyms, or these clowns.
I can't in good conscience recommend anyone go here. Things are kept clean and most of the staff is lovely but I had such a negative experience with the assistant manager that I'm not comfortable returning. This was a few years ago, pre-pandemic. My partner and I had newly signed up with Goodlife and were offered complimentary personal training sessions. My personal training session consisted mainly of being shamed about my body I'm not overweight or sedentary. I had a physically active kitchen job at the time and my body type is average, not that it should matter and guilted about my level of disposable income for about 45 minutes. She told me that I should forgo the on-average twice per month that I ordered takeout so that I could finance personal training sessions with her. She also told me bluntly that I wouldn't ever be happy unless I achieved 8% body fat not a goal I told her I had, just a number she pulled out of thin air. She wasn't interested in sharing any workout routines or good form for any exercises, only making sure I knew that I would never be happy with myself unless I paid her personally for biweekly personal training sessions. This woman was the assistant manager at the time. The fact that such a fatphobic person has achieved a position of authority there means there's no way this gym is a supportive or body-positive place place to be. We also have tried to call several times over the course of the pandemic to cancel our memberships we're not comfortable returning to a communal workout space while there's still a highly contagious airborne virus filling up hospitals and they've repeatedly given us the runaround, to the point where Goodlife has charged us over $600 in membership fees since we've stopped going. I'm honestly not sure if they're actively trying to steal from us or the customer service is really just that bad. Today marks the day that we were finally able to cancel our memberships. Turns out all we had to do was go to the online portal. Not something I was ever told in the two years of phoning intermittently to try to cancel. Never go here. Stay away at all costs.
