Of all the Gold's Gyms this is by far the cleanest gym. My wife and I go to this gym frequently and we see the cleaning staff going around. Gold's Gym's have a terrible reputation for being not well taken care of and for the most part that is true. However, there really aren't any better options in Northern Utah. Gold's Gym need to give each member a towel I bring my own. It is simply gross that everyone sweats all over everything instead of frequently wiping with a towel as you work out. It would help keep their equipment if they would simply do towels. They also need to walk around and make people rack their weights. It needs to become a culture and that starts from the top. You don't have to be rude about it but polity asking a member to re-rack their weights is appropriate. It might be "my gym" but I am paying you to manage it.
I have to say my husband and I enjoyed our membership at this location. However, I am giving it a 1 star because two sales reps lied to us about a cancellation fee. We were told if we canceled early there would be a cancellation fee BUT we did explain that we would be moving to Wyoming and there is not a Gold's Gym in the ENTIRE state. They both said our cancellation fee would be waved if we showed proof that we moved to an area where a Gold's Gym wasn't in a radius of 20 miles. Well, we moved and called the corporate office and there is a cancellation fee. Be warned any of you who buy a membership at this location that the sales reps lie.
I love this gym. It is huge and plenty of classes to choose from with wonderful instructors. There are tons of equipment to use. It is clean. Great staff that are always willing to help and answer questions, especially in daycare. The daycare is a must and stress reliever for many. I am very happy and love to go to this gym.
I have paid for 2 memberships in full the last one expired so I wanted to sign up for the 9.99$ month to month, well I didn't get that they lied to me and signed me up for a 2 year contract at 19.00 illegally, I signed no contract, I gave the sales agent my debit card and they claim that was me electronically signing, I never seen any paper work, I never agreed on any contract and know im dealing with the hassles and harassment. I have tried to speak with member services manager I have left them messages and no returned phone call, I am deeply upset . golds gym is the worst gym I have belonged to. they have no concern for their members or their supposedly maintenance, ya know the one you have to pay for twice a year!!! save your money, try a 24 hour fitness, they was always good, just don't have one in tooele. big corporations like this do not have any customer service nor do they have morals.
The only reason I gave this gym a "Very Good" rating is not because of what you'd think. It is a pretty busted gym, the stretching mats are pealing and no one racks the weights. The female staff has always been cold to me, I thought it was because I'm a woman, but after reading the reviews it looks like I'm not the only one treated indifferent. But I'll let you in on my secret why I like this crap shoot of a place. And maybe you'll only appreciate my review if you've lived outside of UT. The draper/sandy golds is where I used to go to but no matter how new or nice they are type of "crowd" that goes their is well... Swingers *cough *cough. Hey, whatever makes you happy, but I don't think the gym is where women and men need to dress up all pretty for the gym and have the place become their own personal club house, meat rack, or drama room. Everyone sizes you up at those gyms and they over-juiced guys make you feel like a walking target. I've never lived in a place where the woman are so over-tanned, over-glammed, and over the top rude to other females. I don't like working out with that type of superficial environment and I'm not going to the gym to chat and find my date for the weekend. If you're laughing right now it's because you know exactly what I'm talking about. If you're not laughing, it's probably because you're one of the very people I'm talking about so please don't come to this gym because it has the most normal people I've seen in UT yet. People get there, workout, leave. It's my treasured spot. I drive 30 min to get here and its worth it. No one messes up my chi and I can really just focus on my workout.
positives: they have a basketball court my previous gym didn't have one. hours are longer compared to my old gym. they have a wide variety of machines to use as well as a cardio room that plays movies. free wifi. the best part is that it literally takes me 3 minutes to drive to the closest golds. negative: no one re-racks the weights, there is limited dumbbells example: they only have 1 pair of 15lb dumbbells. the bathrooms aren't kept very clean. cardio cinema room stinks, they need some ventilation going in that dark stuffy room or ant least put a timed air freshner in there. the cables are always being used if you go after 5 pm so you can't really do cable crossovers for chest. the girls at the front desk who hold out the scanner for you aren't very friendly, Makes it kinda awkward when I first signed up they signed me up for a free training sessionwhich I didn't even want and at the end of the training session the trainer starts pressuring me into getting personal training which btw is a total ripoff it was like $40 for one 30 minute sessionso like $13/10min and when I kept saying no finally this other personal trainer comes over and starts pressuring me as well, i caved in and ended up signing a contract for a 12 month deal which totaled about $1,900. I was pissed afterwards thinking I've already spent around $360 just for the 2 year membership and now paying an extra $160 a month to get trained 4x a month 30 minute sessions. I luckily called their corporate next day and canceled within the 3 day grace period. couple days following a golds rep called me wanting to know what they could do to keep me in personal training program, nonetheless I denied any attempt.
I actually like the gym itself. The cardio cinema is AMAZING. However, I got roped into personal training- JOKE! Then they tried to sell me a year at $300, which was the "Best they could do" and I went online to find the SAME PLAN at $200! I've been to Sugarhouse, Sandy, American Fork, West Valley and they all try and rip you off while pretending they are helping you out. Get the most basic membership/service you can and you'll be good!
I have been going here for about an year now, I have been a gold's member for over 10 yrs and i have been to their other facilities around the valley and here are my observations. -The place LOOKS dirty, but its about as clean as any gold's gym can be, its the COLOR of the padding on the machines, no matter how much you scrub this place will look dirty with that ugly, stained, 1970's orange color. Switch to BLUE! -They have a slave working there, some young skinny kid scrubbing the machines with some giant old overlord lady watching with her arms crossed, for hours!...this kind of creeps me out. -It takes the FOREVER like a year to replace broken dumbbells, but they did eventually replace some missing ones. -There are some hotties working there ;
Good facilities, reasonably clean, with lots of exercise options i.e. pool, racquetball, cinema room, classes, cycling, basketball, machines, free weights. Staff has always been friendly and helpful. I have tried a couple other Gold's Gyms in the SLC area and I prefer this one. I would recommend it.
I have had a membership here and did not renew it. After we paid in advance for three years, they demanded I pay some sort of improvement fee. They required this three times totaling almost another $100 and yet I saw no improvements. If I didn't pay the new fees, they told me I would not be allowed to work out there. So I didn't pay and haven't gone back. The staff is rude and does not know how to problem solve. If they don't know something they don't make any effort to find someone who can help, they just tell you whatever they can to get you to go away. Terrible customer service!
