Goen Sushi Japanese Restaurant

By far the best delivery sushi I've had and some of the best sushi overall in the GTA. Everything was super fresh, great portions and excellent value. They have a good selection of creative Maki rolls and I appreciate they cut them into 10pcs so they're smaller and easier to eat. Everything qw ate tasted exceptional, can't wait for dining to open back up as I'll definitely be heading back!

Food is cheap here but you pay for what you get. The fish was not not the freshest and texture was borderline rubbery. The rice in the nigiri was a giant clump and was pretty tasteless. We also got a few appetizers like fried gyoza and springrolls but they tasted only a bit better than frozen pre-packaged stuff. The service was good so I feel bad giving such a low rating. But honestly I did not enjoy my meal. I would pay a bit more to have better sushi elsewhere.

Today I ordered their Chicken Katsu Bento along with sushi and sashimi. I grew up and lived in Japan for 30 years - Goen reminds us of a quintessential neighbourhood sushi joint we used to go to when we lived there. Food was very fresh, flavourful and we enjoyed everything as always. Simple food prepared well and service is always very pleasant and homey. We live in the same neighbourhood lucky us! so we always order for pickup at their website and walk over we're glad we don't have to use those food delivery services - they might be ok with processed fast food but not the best option for this type of freshly cooked food. Today the hostess said they are finally open again for indoor dining. We often say "do you want to do Goen tonight?" and we'll do Goen again next time in the restaurant. <below is my review from 2 years ago> Delicious sushi - rice is perfectly cooked and fish is fresh. Chef trained and worked for many years in Atami well-known resort town near Tokyo. Hostess also many years of experience in Japan is friendly and fun to chat with in Japanese.

I ordered from here for the first time last night. I've had sushi from many places before but this place was a bit cheaper so I decided to try it and was not satisfied. you get what you paid for. the salad was such a big disappointment. the lettuce was old and ugly. you can see my pics. I threw the salad out in the trash as it was not worth eating. black spots all over it. no quality at all. sushi: I got the veggie combo and it was alright. quality was again low compared to other places I've tried. miso soup: I honestly don't know why the miso soup had an offputting taste. it was just OK but could be better. I don't plan on ordering from this place again. it was a waste of my money. another weird thing is when I placed my order on uber, it said order is being prepared but literally a few minutes later it said wrapping up which i found weird because how are you already wrapping up my order? it usually always take time for orders to be prepared from other places I order from. I had a feeling something old was probably added to my order..... anyways, I hope your business will improve and do better. take care and have a good day.

I placed an order for takeout for the “Sushi Bar Tray E” and it was delicious! We replaced the California rolls with the hamachi avocado. When we came to pick it up, the waitress was very kind and quick with the transaction. They also gave us 10% off for pickup as they were promoting their soft opening. For the food itself: the sashimi was fresh and the nigiri and maki rolls were great! We finished the tray so quickly and it was super satisfying. Would definitely come again for take out or try dine-in because the place looked so cozy!

Finally picked up from Goen - great spot! Fish was super fresh, generous portions. The nigiri was really good and the rolls were all good. Not too rice heavy, a lot of good food at a super fair price. Will be back!

Fantastic fresh sushi, followed my food allergy request, and even gave me a mochi gift! If you're ever able to pickup some food here don't hesitate. Two thumbs up!! Thank you! Editing my review to add: I'm not trying to tell you how to run your business, but I really think you should put your prices UP!!! The quality you offer and very generous portions and free gifts you always give, I want to pay you more.

A sushi platter 46 pieces and two servings of tempura was more than enough for 5 people. Everything came quick and so fresh. The sushi rice is very tasty and the fish was sliced beautifully. The server was also incredibly polite and attentive. She was also able to split the bill for our group so that it was easier to manage for us!!

We have tried many other Japanese restaurants in the neighbourhood. Have ordered here a few times recently and can safely say this is the best. Fresh, very good quality food. Real wasabi. Always follow special requests, esp concerning allergies. And quick! So glad to finally find a good sushi place!

I was staying in the neighbourhood for the last month and Goen quickly became my go-to for takeout. Great selection of sushi, always fresh and tasty. They give discounts if you order online and pick up instead of using third party sites which was awesome since I was staying only 15 mins away when walking. I will definitely be back if I’m in the area and highly recommend you check it out - you will not be disappointed. Pictures include the double spicy roll you no longer have to choose between spicy salmon or spicy tuna - now you can have both!, the crab salad, shrimp tempura roll, yam hand roll, edamame and miso soup. My grandma always gets the teriyaki salmon bento box and it is great value for money.
