nWe had the opportunity to dine at Glacier Brewhouse while visiting downtown Anchorage, and overall, it was a pleasant experience. The ambiance was inviting, with a lively yet relaxed atmosphere. Seating was comfortable, and the layout of the restaurant gave it a cozy yet upscale feel.nnService was excellent—our server was friendly, attentive, and timely with both orders and refills. The staff handled everything professionally, which added to the positive impression.nnAs for the food, we ordered the fish and chips, which we had been craving throughout our trip. While the fish tasted good, the portion size was underwhelming, especially considering the price point. Coming from South Texas, where fresh seafood is abundant and generously served, we expected a more robust serving—especially this far north where one might assume we’re closer to the source.nnWe understand every region has its standards, but the value didn’t quite align with our expectations, particularly for a dish as classic and simple as fish and chips.nnThat said, Glacier Brewhouse is still worth visiting for the atmosphere and service alone. We might return to try other menu items, but next time, we’ll explore other options for seafood.
Glacier Brewhouse has a great atmosphere—big, lively, and clearly a popular Anchorage spot. If you’re looking for a high-energy brewpub, this place has that vibe dialed in.nnBut for us, the experience got off on the wrong foot. It took over 30 minutes from the time we were seated to get my drink—and that delay set the tone for the rest of the meal. When the drink finally arrived a fantastic Big Woody Barleywine, it was served in a dirty glass with a bad smell. I ended up pouring it into my water glass just to enjoy it.nnDinner arrived barely 7 minutes after the drink, which killed the pacing. I had the Peppercorn Steak—good overall—and my daughter loved her massive fried chicken sandwich. The onion straws on my plate, however, tasted off, like the fryer oil had seen better days.nnOur server was kind and doing her best, but clearly had too many tables to cover. It felt more like a staffing issue than anything else.nnThis place could’ve delivered a great night. The food was mostly solid, the beer was excellent, and the space is cool. But service pacing and attention to detail really matter—and on this visit, they just didn’t land.nnI give it 3 stars overall. Room to improve, but the potential’s there.
Kind of a long wait time but otherwise service was great. Phenomenal dessert bread pudding. Crab stuffed halibut was ok, needed more sauce but otherwise absolutely amazing. Everything’s a little overpriced though. Double shovel Cider was good too. Incredible servers.
Glacier Brewhouse is an outstanding dining experience in Anchorage, Alaska. My wife and I ordered a bowl of the seafood chowder which was amazing. We also ordered the fish tacos. The fresh salsa was crisp and added so much flavor. We finished with their world famous bread pudding with candied pecans. Oh my stars. Everything was brilliant.
When I walked up the stairs and saw the interior, I was extremely impressed. It looked so warm and inviting. Everyone looked like they were enjoying themselves. Just based on that, I decided that I would be coming back every time I come to Anchorage for now on.nI got the rib plate and it was delicious. That jalapeno cornbread with maple butter was excellent. Just a little too crunchy around the edges.nServer was GREAT!
