Extra Credit Union

About

At Extra Credit Union, you'll find more than innovative financial products and banking services tailored to your life, needs and financial goals.

Mission

Come through our doors — chances are, we can help you.

We learned that our members were feeling defeated and looking for help, for solutions, for hope. So, we looked at the ways that we were lending and the criteria we were using, and we started to open up access to more people. We offered loans and credit to those who may not get it elsewhere, knowing that what people experienced over the last few years may not be reflective of the future.

Our lending philosophy at Extra Credit Union soon became: Nothing is stopping us from lending to you. We took our tradition of serving schools and expanded it so that we could do everything possible to help everyone in the community find success.

Extra Credit Union will help you:

• Find solutions to your debt and get a better grasp on your finances
• Approve you for a loan when others may not
• Get a vehicle to get to work
• Buy a house or refinance

At Extra Credit Union, we want to set you up for success. We do not believe in limitations, whether they are the bad economy, a financial downturn, or a loss. We remove all apprehensions, negativity, and fear from the financial process. We will relieve you of your burdens, help you come up with solutions, pay less for everyday expenses, and build better credit and financial opportunities that bring you a bright future.

We ask, are you fed up? If so, come to us. We’ll listen to your story rather than slap a credit score on you. We’ll talk to you, get to know you, and have faith that you’ll pay us back. Local residents are coming to us in droves. It’s very touching that people are thanking us. This truly is life-changing — for them and for us.

My husband and I worked with Jennifer and Carmen (who were both AMAZING) on an auto loan. Some tragic life events left our credit a bit beaten. Extra Credit Union was the ONLY financial institution that actually listened to our story and took our situation into account. I really feel like we were treated like people and not an application number. Thanks to this credit union my husband was able to keep his truck. I could not be more grateful for the care and time that went into our loan. I know who I will go to when my vehicle comes off a lease in a year and I want to buy it! Thanks Extra Credit Union!

TL;DR- Leaving after 14 years to go to a credit union who is better able to take care of my needs. The Good: The tellers and member services reps are some of the friendliest, most pleasant people I've dealt with face-to-face. Kind and always try to do right by the member; they are this institution's greatest asset. The Bad: I have been a dedicated member since 2003... until now. My wife and I set up a living trust and wanted to transfer ownership of my accounts to the trust. I was told by a supervisor that this "...is no longer a service we provide" and they haven't provided trust accounts in over 5 years. Furthermore, that "we suggest that our members name the trust as the accounts' beneficiary" and that this "...is essentially the same." Wrong- naming the trust as a beneficiary negates all the benefits for having a trust established in the first place! Giving a horrible suggestion that is actually a huge disservice to their members- Strike 1. I asked why then does the Membership and Account Agreement state that trusts can own accounts? "We no longer set up trust accounts because of the extra legalities associated with them," was the response and that those types of accounts mentioned are concerning "grandfathered" accounts. Yet, the "legalities" the supervisor mentioned would still need to be dealt with if I died and the trust was the beneficiary, i.e- my accounts would need to be changed to trust accounts anyways! Nowhere in the Account Agreement does it state that trust accounts are explicitly not set up. Even the provisions in the Special Account Instructions have the implication that such an account can be established. If these services "are no longer provided", then the Account Agreement should reflect this. When I asked why the Account Agreement appears to contradict what they were saying, the response was then that the information on the website is old and needs to be updated. I then showed that the web page that hosting the agreement was last updated on April 19, 2017, and not 5 years ago, they were at a loss. If the supervisor was right, then I'm upset that the agreement contradicts the current policy. If the supervisor was wrong, then they were not properly informed as they should be as experts on the credit union's policy. Contradiction between the Account Agreement's publicly communicated policy and management's understanding of the policy - Strike 2. The final straw was that the day prior to our vacation, I called Extra CU to make note on my account of the dates I'd be overseas, and where, so that I could have access to my funds without setting off any alerts. Our first dinner on vacation and my card is being declined! To add insult to injury, I then needed to add an International Plan to my cell service just so I could call Extra CU to find out why my card was being declined. Apparently, there were no notes on my account at all about my trip- Strike 3! These 3 items (horrible "suggestion" that is a disservice, contradictory information that does not meet my needs, and being locked out of my accounts when I needed them while overseas) ruined any loyalty that 14 years had built. I have since joined another credit union, who've had no issue opening an account in the name of our trust (and shook their heads when I told them about my experience), and the checking, savings, and money market accounts with Extra CU will be fully closed by the end of this month.

This credit union is the worst! I have never been nickel-dimed like at this place. I have direct deposit. Funds in checking but payment made via ach from savings and this place charges nsf fees three times totaling $96 which was taken from the checking not savings. Why wouldn't this credit union move the funds simply from the checking into the savings account?!? No- instead I was charged $96 nsf for a $27 payment. If the credit union was able to take $96 from my checking why didn't it take the $27 from checking satisfying the ACH payment. This credit union has the feel of a bank and I've had it. I am turning off the payroll direct deposit I have going here, closing this account, and moving all my money to my other Credit Union or Chase account. Customer service is zero! Banking service is zero! This credit union is worst than a bank. At other credit unions the funds are moved from savings and checking interchangeably to ensure no nsf especially when either account has cash in it. It doesn't make sense to nsf your customer unless the bank is all about growing their business and not yours. When you have cash in your checking and/or savings and it is nsf for a transaction, CHASE gives you 24 hours to deposit/move funds before NSF fees are charged. If you are thinking about doing business with Extra Credit Union, think again. It has the feel of a bank. It charges monthly fees like a bank. It charges NSF fees without any flexibility like a bank. It's more concerned with growing its business than helping you grow yours. You might as well go to a bank instead of Extra Credit Union. My rating -1 stars. You can do better with your money than going here. I hope that helps you decide the best place to deposit and grow your money.

They need to figure out there defective debit card situation. My first debit cards chip kept falling off and when I did get it back on it wouldnt read at any stores and was unusable. I thaught ok things happen and called to have a new one mailed to me since I couldnt pick it up I just had surgery. After a week and a half I got my new debit card and my husband took it to buy groceries and after 2 days the chip wont read on any machine in any store and it wouldnt work to slide it either. It was properly activated and worked for 2 days now its defective. He had to walk out of the store leaving 150 bucks in grocerys behind because this was our only means to pay for it. Funds were there at the time this happened. So now I have to order a 3rd debit card!!! This is getting ridiculous. Ive only been a member for a few months and Im getting turned off by the inconvienience! I use my debit for everything ... now were stuck once again...
