I'm so disappointed in this building and how it is run. In the 2 years that I have lived here, management has changed 6 times. Our newest property manager, labeled as a "rising star of Paramount Properties" consistently ignores emails and doesn't solve any problems. He doesn't care. The building doesn't care. They say enough to make you go away. This is obviously a business and you can tell that they are here to make money, nothing else. The amenities are often closed with no notification to the tenants. The rooftop patio has now been closed indefinitely. yay summer! If you have the choice to live anywhere else, I highly suggest that you do.
My wife and I have lived here for 4 years and are very pleased with the services of the current management team After all this time, we have had some repairs done recently. The drywall repairs were superb and we love our new floor in the kitchen. The workman have been very professional and are a credit to Paramount. We are looking forward to the pool reopening after the repairs are complete.!
Not entirely sure how this place has decent reviews but just after living here for roughly a year, I have had packages stolen, laundry stolen, several problems when I moved into the unit from the fridge to heating issues. The amount you pay isn’t worth while especially when the amenities aren’t accessible. Yes that is covids fault but the pool was broken and leaking well before that and still hasn’t been fixed. There has also been 4 supers since I lived here, for a year.. It’s a very convenient area for anyone needing a place downtown, but save your troubles and money and live, literally anywhere else. Everything is very out of date here and the prices don’t even correlate to rent prices now.
I lived here for 2.5 years and I absolutely recommend the building/management. The apartments are on the pricier side, but you get what you pay for. The building and amenities are always well-maintained, and any maintenance issues are handled quickly. Everything you could need is within a five-minute walk. Living directly across from the police HQ also means the area is generally super safe.
TL;DR: Very very very "okay" apartments, displeased with management. Lived here for a year. When we moved in, we had an amazing landlord who was really nice and understanding. Maintenance requests went through ASAP. We had a sliding glass door that needed to be fixed, and this, unfortunately, was never fixed over the entire year and multiple requests. Maintenance came in 3 or 4 times to "inspect it" and they said they had to order parts and we never heard about it again. The draft made it incredibly cold in the winter, but at least the heat was free. The apartment was incredibly outdated. Old appliances with a leaky fridge, cabinets rotting out of the walls, tiles cracked, bathroom vent full of dust. All of that didn't bother us -too- much because we had a nice location, but we then started to have problems with the super. We were locked out of our apartment late doing laundry one night and so we called him. Left a message and someone else let us in within 15 minutes so we called immediately and left another message. When we came in later to switch out the laundry, the super cornered us in the laundry room, red in the face, practically spitting, to scream at us for waking him up "for no reason". We ended up having to pay a "convenience fee" even though he didn't help us at all. Time passed and we didn't seem to have much problems until we notified the building we would be moving out. Our landlord had been replaced at this point, and so we were informed via paper that they would be coming in "whenever they want" to show the apartment. This was during the tail end of the first wave of COVID and I attempted to call the landlord to tell her that my husband is high-risk and that we will not be allowing anyone into our apartment. She got very rude and short with me on the phone, told me she would be doing whatever she saw fit, and practically hung up on me. I had to call her boss to solve the situation. During move out, we were late to our elevator because our UHAUL had screwed us over. We arrived with 45 minutes left to spare and the super had shut down the elevators. I attempted to tell him we were still using them, and he told us he was told we cancelled. We did not, we called to say we would be running late. He then proceeded to loudly reprimand me in front of a lobby full of other people for being late and that we "better hurry up" because we will be in trouble if we use the elevators for too long. It made an already incredibly stressful day even worse, especially when the people who were scheduled to use the elevators after us spoke with me privately and kindly allowed us to run just a few minutes after our time slot with no problem at all. Those are the most problematic instances we've had with this building. Other complaints we might have would be like how we moved in expecting to be able to use the convenience store and it was shut down within 2 months of being there, and the building was under construction for the rest of the year. Or, perhaps, how unbearably hot the east side apartments get in the summer; we blew hundreds keeping a portable AC on 24/7 just to survive. All in all, when it was "good" the experience there was sub-par. When it was "bad" it was stressful, and incredibly emotionally draining. I cannot recommend right now given the state of the apartments and the minimum price to live there which was recently upped to almost $1400 a month for a bachelor in May. Looking back at the website now, it looks like rent prices have gone down to be significantly lower than even what we paid moving in in 2019
The rents here are the going rates but the apartments are never updated like other places with the same rents. Everything is old school. Not even the cabinets, Windows nothing. Old carpets etc. Parking at $150 a month forget it! Paramount does not renovate there apartments.
This was the first apartment my now wife and I lived in, so needless to say I loved my time there! It had a great location right on Elgin so you can take advantage of the downtown lifestyle and night life. The building was well kept and had a pool and workout area upstairs - some great features. Eventually we moved out to the burbs but we loved our time here. We would recommend the building!
worst customer service ever submitted my rental application on wednesday and they said they will give there decision next day. On thursday they said please call us tomorrow. Today is friday no one called me yet. Not even received any email from the management.
Amazing staff. Justin Jason and Julie all keep a great attitude and are hard working.
I lived in the Elgin Square Apartments for approximately three years and I really enjoyed my time there. Its location on Elgin Street puts it in close proximity to the many bars, restaurants and shopping found in downtown Ottawa. The building is very well maintained and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful.
