Current renters at the Elphin and we've experience nothing but unacceptable service, except for one personnel being Martin. Maintenance feel they can enter your apartment whenever they please without the REQUIRED 24hrs notice. They also wont do anything about the theft issues that have been getting increasingly worse. We've personally been broken into 4 different times over the last year and mail/packages often go "missing". You have something in need of fixing? Expect to have to do it yourself and then get charged for the repairs as damage. When they do decide to do any repairs, don't expect to be notified of such. And for any of my pet owners, maintenance does not care about their safety. We sadly had our cat pass away due to their negligence and awful behavior. The only reason this place has good reviews is thanks to the Nature Museum. Other than that, this place is not worth your time
I had lived at the Elphin Apartments for 5 years. I had to move because the quality of the building has greatly declined when Ric and Jan left. The current building managers are unapproachable and cold. The only employee that is friendly and a hard worker is Martin. I saw that one reviewer stated that they never saw bedbugs or cockroaches. This is false. I know personally three apartments that has been infested with bedbugs. New students please beware. Don’t waste your money renting here. Remember if it’s below market prices it means below standards.
I have lived here for three years and I have loved living here. Many of the units have been renovated with new countertops, floors, and water-saving toilets. I have never seen or heard of any cockroaches, bedbugs or any other bugs. The building is well kept and clean -- including landscaping out front. Megan and Andrew the superintendents/building managers are wonderful and friendly and attentive. Martin, the caretaker, is great too. The price is right. All utilities are included. My balcony was HUGE -- bigger than most apartments/condos. The location is unmatched. I can walk to four grocery stores from here, including Whole Foods. The 14 bus that takes you to Rideau Centre stops right in front. The 6 and 7 buses are a five minute walk away. The canal is nearby. There are bike paths and many parks nearby. You're sandwiched between the most interesting streets in Ottawa -- Bank and Elgin... I will thoroughly miss living here and only wish that I could find something comparable in Toronto.
I lived here for 2 years. Pretty much your standard building. It's old like many high rises around the city. I give it 5 stars because it's pretty well maintained, the parking is crazy cheap for downtown 60 outdoor / 80 indoor, and there is 24/7 laundry on every floor. You also get a a large locker storage with your unit completely free. Their prices are also on par or slightly lower than most other buildings. The supers are also very kind and friendly. They live in the building. You can't beat the value here.
