The salmon Benedict came with two poached eggs and some potatoes. I really loved the creamy hollandaise sauce. The salmon was soft and smoky and paired very nicely with the runny yolk. Overall, it was a 10/10 for me. I also really loved the braised beef. It was surprising to find how tender and beefy the dish was. It's served in a cast iron pan to keep the food warm. To perfect everything, they added poached eggs and some crostini. My favourite dish here.
The restaurant ambience was nice however food was just alright. The foie gras appetizer was excellent but that was about it. The cod was over salted, the duck was dry, and the bouillabaisse was watery and tasteless. The seafood, especially the scallops seemed like they were frozen, having a rubbery texture to them. Good portion size just lacking depth of flavour. The waiter was very pleasant, just the food wasn't anything special.
Overall experience was average, while the food was very good, the service experience was below expectations. Our white wine was served warm and our server wasn’t responsive enough to address it. Finally, we were expecting much more in the overall eating experience to match the expensive evening.
Both environment & service was perfect. For dishes, the presentation was beautiful; soup was very good, no special for salad. Aged beef hamburg was tasty, Arctic char was juicy & the skin was crispy; dessert also good, but too sweet: for crème blulee, caramel was too thick; for lemon tart, meringue less sugar should be better.
My family of six went here for Winterlicious this past Saturday. I am quite aware that some restaurants skimp out during Winterlicious. However, I find that more reputable restaurants usually do not, so I thought I would give La Société a try. It was a bad decision. Let's start with taste and portion size. The portion sizes were tiny even for French cuisine and the taste was mediocre to downright terrible. I expected more from such a well-established restaurant. The potato chips served with the salmon tartare were stale and you get more chips than salmon tartare. My dad had the lobster bisque not pictured and it was so salty, he did not even finish it. The duck confit was dry and overly salted. I'm not sure how that was even possible as that the point of confit is to prevent the meat from drying out. The lentils served with the duck were hard and there were random strips of beets that did not go with the the rest of the dish. The rainbow trout was mediocre and tiny. I should not have zoomed in while taking the picture, because you cannot really see how small the portion was. The desserts were all terrible and tasted like something out of a grocery store. The pastry in the "mille feuille" was bland and stale. The dark chocolate fondant was cold and hard and the "lava" inside was lukewarm. The Paris brest was also hard and tasted like a Nutella donut from Tim Horton's. Overall, the portion sizes were small, the plating was atrocious and the taste was awful. However, I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by the service, because I had read other reviews on here that complained about the service. My server was excellent, so props to her. I would definitely NOT recommend this restaurant to others and I would not come back.
Last minute Winterlicious reservation for a party of 4 was not an issue with this restaurant. We arrived early and the host seated us quickly without a wait. Our waiter arrived at the table promptly and introduced himself politely. Michael was very professional and understanding throughout and did not hesitated to update our bill when we first asked for separate bills but I ended up deciding to pay another friends bill together. The food was delicious and the service was always prompt. Michael even offered us more bread without us asking while we waited for our appetizers. Note that the ambience was on the noisy side, so if you are looking for a quieter place, La Societe may not be a perfect match.
Thank you Chef persanth for the wonderful meal. Little hard to find as we almost walked right past the place but when you get there you'll love it. The food and service is what you can expect to receive for the prices. The braised beef was juicy and very tasty but the burger had too much gravy which eventually just make the bun soggy. The very seating comfortable and there is a coat check.
Went for our one year wedding anniversary - had an excellent time from start to finish. Food was outstanding, everything we ordered was flavourful, fresh and delicious. Service was impeccable with knowledgeable, friendly and attentive staff. Felt very special for our very special night!
This is a great location with the style and atmosphere of a French cafe. The food is generally very good and I've enjoyed the two meals I've had there but the service is a bit lacking. Both times have been for lunch and the restaurant is never full but the food does take a while to come out, which is why I dropped a star. I would still recommend the place and will most likely be back again, if in the neighborhood visiting the ROM.
This place is decent. It is not my most favourite place but it still cracks top 10 across Toronto. The dish named Fruits de Met Grillés is fantastic. I suggest everyone tries it as this is the best dish over at this place. The customer service here wasn’t bad and our waitress was very friendly. She helped us out whenever we had different questions. She even spoke to us in French which was admirable. I suggest trying this place out.
