Great and caring staff. I would definitely recommend everyone come here if they’re struggling a lot with their mental health. They can give you the tools you need to help yourself. Of course, like with every hospital, there is some staff who don’t have any respect for the patients and think they are superior to them. Just make sure, if you’re a patient, to advocate for yourself. Speak to a judge if you feel you are being mistreated. It is your right. Also, if you have family you’re close to, let them know what’s going on with your treatment so they can advocate for you too. As for what it’s like on the inside, the food is quite good in my opinion. The amenities are a little old and worn down don’t have/can’t post pictures though. You can usually wear your own clothes inpatient so no hospital gowns for the most part and no grippy socks : Taking pictures, filming inside isn’t normally allowed for confidentiality reasons. I might add to this review if I can think of anything else. You got this :
Nobody wants to need to visit the Douglas. Irregardless, the hospital itself is very much needed by thousands in the community. We were pleasantly surprised by affordable parking 6.25$CAD for 4-24 hours, which is negligible compared to the Royal Victoria, Montreal General, Hôpital St-Justine, and the Montreal Children's Hospital. Security and staff inside emergency were gentle, patient, and helpful..., even when dealing with belligerent patients. The grounds are beautiful..., there is even a discgolf course festooning the fields. Many reviews criticise the wait times. We did have a long wait but this is because triage is different given the illnesses treated at Hôpital Douglas. Mental illnesses are not as simple to identify and treat as, for example, a broken arm or hypothyroidism. Patients need staff to evaluate patients carefully given the complexity and obscurity of disorders. Moreover, the Quebec healthcare system is woefully underfunded, understaffed, and unprepared for surges in admissions. Perhaps Quebec will choose to invest in healthcare by educating more healthcare workers and funding places for these graduates. When our community invests in its healthcare and education we help everyone.
Just called the Douglas hospital inquiring about the ER wait times as the RV is near 160%. I was told by the Francophone Emergency Room receptionist it wasnt an emergency if I had to ask that question. After telling her her response lacked empathy she said to go somewhere else if I didnt like her answer.
Marieanne Boisvert doctor at intake is neither caring or competent. She makes situation worse, never listens and refuses help obtain follow up help for even when the person clearly needed it. She's a liability to the Douglas.
My brother left hospital feeling worse then he ever did and just wanted his life to be over with, he’s been crying for past 3 hrs and would not tell me the name of this female doctor who ever she is, doctors like her should never be doctors and should obviously change profession & definitely not competent enough to be in a position to help mental health patients already on meds wanting to kill themselves after leaving her office! Day by day, he was getting better, and started to see a future in living again till he met with her today and what ever she told him made him feel worse then he ever did… I’ll get to the bottom of this and file my formal complaint on social media & radio stations if I have too, Extremely irate!!! My brother is the only family I have left and has a heart of gold, yet this female doctor who’s more interested in the $$$$ she makes, instead of helping people as she supposed to do, truly made things even worse. God forbid anything should happen to my brother I put the blame on her and this hospital. Zero stars for this place!!! But have to give 1 in order to post this
Disgusted by the level of treatment. When someone is on their knees begging for help and you dismiss them. There's no place for Drs like you in the field of Mental Health. Some people took all they had in them that day to seek guidance and assistance, maybe some reassurance and empathy...a plan to get their life on track, because they had hope.but left with nothing except for a snarky remark, which was dehuminzing and uncalled for. Patients are human they have rights to be heard and not silenced. I am still in shock and disbelief that is person is in the medical profession.
Went there after being diagnosed with a depression and TDAH . Worst place tge staff is rude and no professional i wait for hour because the nurse did a wrong evaluation didn't listen to what i have to say only try putting word in my mouth thqt i didn't say ....i rather kill myself than go back there .....oh and the moment you enter this place you lose all your canadian right . Dont think ever going out .
My son was admitted under the impression that he would be getting daily group therapy and individual therapy several times a week to help with suicidal thoughts and BPD. After admission we found out, because of covid, no services were offered. The Douglas was just going to give their diagnosis and administer medications and make sure patient was stable to go home 10 days, adequate time in their opinion for someone to no longer be suicidal, ha. Please make sure you have your own plan for help after being released you'll have to go private as government services are 8 month wait list. They offered zero referrals or follow-ups after release. They over medicated my son so once he was released his GP had to signicantly reduce his dosages. Unless person going into the Douglas is a danger to others or themselves the Douglas won't be any help as the services needed to recover aren't available at the moment. The stay there I think was more damaging than helpful.
Staff was incredible but the doctor should lose his license. He belittled me and treated me with condencension and disregard to what I was saying
My husband got autism and he get better by the treatment policy of Douglas. I can say thank for that. And I am very appreciate that my husband get improve in his life by the help and the hard working of every worker over here But the problem is when my husband was locked down in hospital. The doctor don’t event mention the specific period for his stay. And when he see doctor they always said he will come out after few days or after one week. But keep delay his stay after that period. It no good to give the patient and his family a hope and break the hope after. I don’t like to keep waiting my husband without hope!! The patient of the hospital is the client. The worker should keep their credit to their client and improve their work effect so the patient their client will like to work with the hospital for long time
