About The YMCA of Northern Alberta is a registered charity that promotes strong kids, healthy families and thriving communities. Story Don and Marion Wheaton believed, from their early years in Porcupine Plain, Saskatchewan, that “no man is an island” and that we all need to help our neighbours and improve the lives of our fellow citizens as we are able. As a young adult, Don quietly committed to spend at least an hour each day in some kind of volunteer work for the benefit of his community. It is a commitment he honoured throughout his life. Don and Marion have been blessed with eight children, 34 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. Family and service to the community are values that continue in succeeding generations.
