Dollar Rent A Car

My car rental experience with Dollar at the YVR airport was smooth and speedy, including pick-up and drop-off. The car was in good condition and we didn't run into any issues. Seeing the negative reviews I was hesitant at first to book with Dollar, however, most reviews were from people who basically did not do their due diligence by reviewing their estimated final cost and add-on services when signing the documents during pick-up. We weren't overcharged for anything.

If I read the recent reviews about this Dollar Car Rental I could have avoid the same type of scam used by the service counter people at the Vancouver airport. He added the LDW option which I don't need to my rental agreement without my consent. I signed without looking into the details because it appeared that the total charge was close to what I expected. I forgot I have paid expedia up front to book the car already. Of course I found out later I have paid almost double the amount I should be paying. I believe the Dollar Rental rep uses the same trick to scam customers all the time. I believe customer like me should call expedia and Dollar Rental head office to complain. The Dollar Rental at Vancouver airport must be penalized for scamming their customers.

Was charged an extra $170 because the rep apparently misspoke and told me an extra day would cost $156 and I was instead charged $326. Customer service did nothing to resolve what was their mistake, and kept repeating to me that I signed a contract and so I should have read it. They basically said the employees words, that cost me an extra $170, were not their problem. I realize there is paperwork, but if the rep says something, that should be honoured too. Brutal service. I wish them nothing but the worst.

Very expensive. A full size car for a day costs 150$!! The process is quick and efficient but would recommend to avoid if you can get a premium car elsewhere for this price.

Surprisingly good. A much better experience than many many more. Booked ahead direct on their website with very good price compared to all the other companies. Arrived early morning, no queues at all and excellent service at the counter. Not overly pushy on up-selling. Given a nice upgrade - wasn’;t overseen as it meant more fuel than planned but oh it was super comfy and perfect for our Rockies trip Toyota Highlander instead of a Rav 4 Pick up very smooth and easy. Car clean and ready to roll. Return again early simple drop off in the express box nice that the nearby airport Pertrocanada charges the same prices as everyone else. Invoice received, no surprises, deposit refunded within hours. Recommended. If I ever return, I’ll use again.

Purchased my rental through a work site including insurance. When I got to Vancouver airport, the agent verified my reservation and asked if I needed insurance? I said no. I had already purchased it. He asked about additional drivers, I said one. He got all her information and then proceeded to ask me if I wanted the fuel charge because it's a better deal than pumping at the gas station by the airport. I agreed not knowing how my timing would be on the day of return. Now I rented the car for 3 days, which already expensive even through a work discount site. I just received my final bill from dollar rental and it was an additional $300. They charged me for insurance I already had...I returned the car with half a tank of gas and they charged me $98 for fuel charge. I was driving a Kia Rio!!! I called dollar rental and they were NOOO help at all. Bottom line....do not trust anything their agents tell you. Fill ur own gas tank and read and reread the fine print on the agreement. They will charge you for extras and unfortunately without remorse, because you signed the contract. I was there for a family emergency and after a 12 hour flight didn't think I had to worry about something as basic as renting a car?? I've learnt my lesson and regardless of your circumstances, double check everything. Will never use this company again! Rude, zero customer service skills and down right sneaky.

I could have given 5 stars if the loss damage waiver didn't go wrong. Be careful if you book through 3rd party Expedia/Priceline etc and do not forget about the payment you've already made online before picking up the car. I reserved the car online before my trip I always do. I remembered the total cost of the rental. The amount I paid at the counter was a few bucks off which I thought was minor price fluctuation...until I remembered I already paid almost 200 online. Turned out they charged me loss damage wavier for the days I had the car, which I did not include in my online reservation. The car rentals I've had before always followed my reservation requirements. Unfortunately, just because they have your signatures on the docs, you "agreed" all the charges...

Very expensive car rental. Toyota RAV4 was 8/10 clean but the interior windshield was dirty. Besides that, ok.

Rented through expedia. Customer rep was friendly and quick with the paperwork. When our party expressed interest in upgrading our sedan to a SUV/minivan during the last day of our trip, the customer rep upgraded us to a SUV free of charge, which was amazing. Will use again if ever in the area!
